Do O2 modify their phones???

I buy a T610, my mate also does, but on another network. Mine is on Vodafone. Mine is slow, horrible, laggy and awful. His operates smoother than melted chocolate and is a joy to use!

The same happened with my S700i. Not only are Vodafone phones slower, but Vodafone also remove the lovely GUI and replace it with their own balderdash (usually a crappy red/white menu) that really annoys me.

So, when my contract expires in about a week, I've decided to move. I'm sick of Vodafone's rubbish! Do O2 customize their phones, or leave them as they are?

Finally, are there any GOOD phones worth waiting for? (2-3 months?)
Or shall I dive in and get either the Motorola V3x (or the March release SE w810i)

Cheers,

Does anyone have anything against Three?

I'm liking the look of the Motorola V3x, and Three are the only UK operator who do the black version. I also don't want Vodafone's karp written all over it.

o2 don't do much at all IMO.

The two phones i've had off them have just had a welcome screen and a background (which you can change). There are no logos on the phones themselves and the UI is completely untouched.
The benefit of the o2 phone is that all the MMS/GPRS etc is all set up ready to use out of the box.

o2 are a great operator IMO; great coverage, great prices and a good from a customer service standpoint. E.g. today my GPRS went up the swanny and I found wouldn't send text's or ring out. Got hold of o2 CS and within 10 mins everything was up and running again :)

t3h

O2 sometimes add the o2 active menu, if its a phone with windows on it they will anyway, make sure you remove it, it slows the phone down and can cause it to jam. O2s call pricing is a bit high.

Better be quick. The V3x has been pulled from 3. once stocks go, thats it.

I've had about 3 O2(or subsidiaries) contracts now out of 4 contracts and I've never had a phone that wasn't unlocked when I got it and free of any other software. They seem pretty good overall.

I like o2. My Samsung E350 which I got for Christmas only has a welcome screen which says o2 Welcome with the bubbles etc., and a shut down screen which says o2 Goodbye with bubbles etc..

Still have that sig then!

My o2 P910i just has o2 start up and shutdown screens. If you ask nicely most networks will send you a unbranded phone.

I once bought a 6230 off of Spie that he ordered on a Voda contract but he asked for a sim free phone.

I second the O2 branding, it really just extends to screensavers and wallpapers and on my nokia 6680 an o2 theme but thats about it. Completely unlocked and no extrenal branding otherwise.

Orange are pretty ruthless - my K750i doesn't have the lovely colourful rendered Sony menu, but some shoddy effort that looks like it was made in Microsoft Paint in under five minutes, using just 10 shades of Orange, by a five year old, blindfolded... Nice one fellas...
