Do overclockers do custom builds? Can someone?

Hi,
I have a pretty good idea of the major components for a system I want to have built. I'm not a gamer, I'm a software developer. I have built PCs a long while ago but not for a while. I'm worried about messing up and short of free time and wonder if anyone here will help me spec a system and build it for me for a reasonable fee?

I'm after a 6 core AMD system with at least 8 gig of ram, I'm doing a lot of multicore and distributed work with multiple VMs.

An SSD for the OS a second drive for data. Graphics card needs to be good enough to drive two monitors at 1920x1200. I like the look of the coolermaster rc-1000 cosmos cases.

I specced something up on XXXXXXX for about 1500 but wondered if expertise here could lead to something more interesting. Stability AND performance are key.

Cheers in advance

Russell

12GB Ram, i7, 100GB SSD, 2 F3's for RAID (0 or 1).

What do you think?

I thought that i7 had more power because of the HT? You can easily swap out the MB, CPU+ Ram for an AM3 bundle.

I would look at the following parts:

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz ~ £245

Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 ~ £120

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-393-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782

This has both USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 ability. Uses a split 8+2 phase VRM with cooling.

OR

Asus M4A89GTD PRO ~ £108

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-392-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782

Has SATA 3.0 and uses a split 8+2 phase VRM with cooling.

8GB low latency 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £200

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-180-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

Titan TTC-NK85TZ/V2 Fenrir CPU Cooler ~ £30

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-009-TI

Asus GeForce GT 220 1024MB DDR2 ~ £55

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-217-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=

Nvidia cards have better drivers for Linux use.

Belkin PureAV HDMI to DVI Video Adapter ~ £10

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-198-BE

Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive ~ £325

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-005-IN&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427

4XSamsung F3 1TB ~ £232

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1279

The discs can be run in a RAID 5 array.

Akasa Dual 2.5" SSD/HDD Mounting Kit ~ £6

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-059-AK

Coolermaster RC-1000 Cosmos Silent Full Tower Case ~ £136

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-144-CM

Pioneer SATA DVD rewriter ~ £19

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-069-PO&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

Seasonic X-650 ~ £126

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-013-SS

Has 8 SATA power connectors and runs passively under low loads. The PSU has very high efficiency according to many reviews.

The total comes to around £1462 to £1474 excluding delivery.

Thanks Ryan111 and CAT-THE-FITH. Both of those specs are in budget. I didn't mention intel 'cos I didn't think I could afford it. Either of those sets ups would be ideal. I'll play around with the specs in the shopping basket for a bit.

Thanks again, you've made this a lot easier. I appreciate it.

Cheers

a 60gb ssd would be as suitable and save a lot of ££
AMD 6 core (for your listed use) probably better than i7 though a little more expensive as the 920 is so cheap atm

if it was me, i would go with ryan's spec.

the 12gb over the 8gb would be better for VM's

i do programming for different platforms, and use multiple VM's to compile and test code easily.
12gb allows me to have a decent amount of ram available for all the VM's

however, if your considering using it under linux at all, or linux vm's, i would suggest using an nvidia based card, especially if running 2 montiors

take a look at our system range, if you see something you like the look of then we can make changes for you

chances are you will be able to pick a good base unit with a fast cpu and just max out on the memory. if its primarily for work then it might be best to have a conservative overclock to ensure max stability.

as said previously, our sales team are all very good at advising in these situations.

you can contact them via phone or even the customer support section on these very forums
