Do people get 3GHz from their E6600s?

As above really. Trying to decide between 6300 or 6400 and 6600 cause of the extra cache - if I'm pretty much guaranteed to get the 6300 to 3GHz with a good mainboard, what's the equivalent "expected overclock" for a 6600?

You're pretty much sure to get at least 3GHz with a E6600, they generally clock slightly better than the 6300/6400 assuming you're not FSB limited but there's not much in it.

Most E6300's will do 3Ghz+ with a decent motherboard. If you're gonna go down that route go for a Gigabyte DS3/DS4 or an Asus P5B/P5B Deluxe.

put mine straight on 333 fsb and the ram is running at 830.

no increase in any voltage.

no problem at all , very sweet 25 percent overclock.

If you buy a decent cooler you may get a e6600 upto 3.5-3.6Ghz. More if you're very lucky.

The only real reason to go for a E6600 over 63 or 64 is if you're wanting more than say 3.6ghz (assuming you've got a board capable of high FSB)
63 and 6400 *should* make 3.6ghz as long as you;ve got a board, cooling and ram capable of it. The major advantage of the 6600 however is that you dont need to spend loads on memory or motherboard to get your 3.6ghz. 400 FSB is plenty, and almost every board out there will run that.
If you're only after 3ghz then an E6300 should make that easy enough with around 430 FSB. Thats within the realm of most boards and shouldn't be a problem for most 6400 ram.

My E6600 is sitting quite happily on 3240 at 1.40V vcore with a load temp of ~43c under a Scythe Ninja.

My E6300 is sitting at 3150 on stock volts (1.325) with a load temp of ~38c under an Arctic 7. At the moment it is limited by the RAM but I will get faster RAM sometime and push it a bit more.

Both very good chips with the E6600 outperforming the E6300 somewhat due to the faster clock speed and extra cache but if I can get the E6300 to around 3400 with faster RAM, I would think there wouldn't be much in it.

I have had the E6600 running stable at 3400 but it needed 1.475V and the load temp was over 50c - I know that's not too bad but it isn't necessary for it to be that fast so no point it being that hot either (I prefer to keep all my rigs below 45c if I can - just personal preference).

Stan :)

e6600 at 3.25ghz on stock volts completely stable.
havnt really played about with it much, unfortunatly i just havnt had the time, but theres much more potential there.

Same as above really, my 6600 does 3ghz no bother. No increase in volts or anything. I just bought a tunic tower 120, do i can maybe go higher when i install it.

i got 3.1ghz from my e6600, 25c under load on water.i have not even bothered pushing it any further all on stocks voltage too.

It's pretty much fact that the extra cache doesn't do much.

Completley new to o/c these, so whats stock fsb and multi on the E6600 ?
That'll do for starters, Ill be back for more advice when I start playing :p

Stock FSB is 1066 / 4 so it's 266 to start with. The stock multiplier of the e6600 is 9, but that can be lowered if you want higher FSB.

And to join in the overclock report; Now that I've lapped the core of my e6600 week 29b, it goes up to 3.6ghz at 1.4 volts (if it is that, speedfan reports 1.34v) but I'm still orthos testing it.
Before lapping it was going at 77C at this speed/voltage but after lapping its down to 65C :D and now I can run 3.6ghz like I wanted, a nice simple 50% overclock.

I've got both the E6300 and E6600, both clock really well, but the 6300 runs a lot cooler.

E6300 @ 470 fsb 3.3 Idles @ 41 load 48-52 superpi 1m 18 seconds
E6600 @ 400 Fsb 3.6 Idles @ 44 load 58-66 superpi 1m 14 seconds

And the extra cache on the 6600 makes encoding movies a lot quicker.

Ok thanks Voodle :)
So .. 400 FSB would also be 1:1 with PC6400 mem ? or am I crossing things up :o

400 for 3.6ghz yummy ... 450 for 4ghz

Yeah that's how I've got it, I dont like having to run 1:1 but that's the slowest the 965 chipset goes :) If I wanted to try for more I think I'd need some nicer ram because at the moment I'm running some cheapo ddr2-533 hynix that I got from ebay which seems happy to run at 400mhz with 4-4-4, so I'm stuck with 3.6Ghz.

If you're buying a new e6600, it looks like most of them wont struggle to reach 3.6ghz.

I can get into windows @3.8 (e6600) and even 3.9 but it needs 1.5-1.6v and even then isn't stable so i run at 3.6 day to day.
I'm running at [email protected] stable just now because im using an old psu while waiting for rma and it's not really up to the job.

O/C n00b question...do ya need to increase the voltage for the cpu ureself as ya o/c it, or does it do it automatically itself?

ty :)

btw, im planning on getting an E6600 with a DS4 so, keeping my eye on this thread for tips :P
