Do some Intel Core 2 Duo's run hotter than others?

I think the E6750 is a G0 core also?

Would that run cooler than a normal dual core?

Pretty sure all the e6*50 chips are G0.

...my e6750 runs a lot cooler than the e6600 and the e2180 before it. But then again water does that ;)

the e6550 is a pretty decent buy :)

I'm not sure I heard of someone paying a premium for a cool running G0 dual-core processor they don't intend to overclock?

I would buy an E2160 for cheaper and stick a £50 quid heatsink on and clock it until it exploded! :p

Helmutcheese has his at 3.9ghz (E6850). I'm sure I've seen a few others and they seem to do well from what I've seen/can remember.

Are you thinking about getting a Wolfdale?. I'm thinking about it and it's why I picked up this E2180. Great chip, 3.2Ghz from first boot and I've had it up to 3.5Ghz (not tried to Prime it though) so I agree that these cheaper CPU's are pretty good for the money.

Longshanks, your friend could save some money here. This E2180 has only been at stock when I accidentally went into windows following a CMOS reset. Buy a decent cooler, E2160/2180 and he'd still have spare cash. It's easy to overclock (persuade him;)).

I wouldn't touch anything other than a quad at the moment. Those 2180 and so on are great value but aren't they being pushed to their absolute max at 3.2ghz ? which must shorten the lifespan dramatically that and the 1mb cache and temps would put me off.If you buy a duo apart from the 6850 it's automatically worth £50 now on a resale because of the 2180 so bad idea to get a duo now.

I can get mine to 3.5Ghz and at only £50 odd quid who cares if the lifespan is reduced. It's still going to be going strong for aaaaaagggggggeeeeeeessssssss. I don't know of anyone that needed to change their CPU because of the effect of overclocking. No point in avoiding because of the scenario you placed. No point at all tbh . Also I could sell my CPU for about £20 - £30 which will add a few pennies for Wofdale.

If you've had any E2xxx series chips then fair enough but by your comments it's plain to see that you haven't. I know you can only relate experience but I've used E6600 @ 3.5Ghz // E6850 @ stock and obviously my own and I've not seen any difference between the three CPU's.
