Do the prices drop today or not?

This is not correct - every one of the newly shipped CPUs will be G0 stepping.

Im guessing OcUK have done this becasue they still have stock of the old stepping CPUs but becuase so many people want the G0 steppings they have had to seperate them out etc etc and offer them on their own.

The stock is not normally received and stored by stepping, just by SKU.

If you place an order for a Q6600 and they have one on the shelf you'd get it, only you want a specific stepping not just any one off the shelf.

All you are paying that small premium for is so they will hold your order and not just give you the one off the shelf but will wait and watch for the G0 steppings to arrive then use those particular items to meet your order.

You are paying for special treatment.

If you want to wait till the old steppings are not in channel or stock any more so you just place an order with out any special selection then just wait a couple of months.

If you don't want to wait then pay for the service that is on offer.

Err the SKU does tell you the Stepping...SLARC etc...they just dont put this on the product code for the public to see...there's an official PDF from a supplier on the internet to this effect....just spoke to a local retailer to confirm :)

That's not my understanding.

If that were the case, why would OCUK be offering a G0 picking service if all the CPU's were going to be G0 anyway?

The Q6600 G0 costs less for stockists to buy than the ones already in stock, so I think it may be OcUK capitalising on the hype, it may drop soon.
Edit: (1) My source is a small-mid sized retailer (4/5 stores)

I didn't say you couldn't tell what the stepping was I said it is not normally received and stored by stepping but by the SKU so all the Q6600 CPUs would go on the same shelf so to speak.

Anyway, I think we've done this one to death now, everyone knows what to do if they want a G0 :)

@ Vertigo1, I love selective quoting!!

It was my understanding, as I also mentioned in my OP just before you snipped the quote.

Unlike some on here, I'm happy to have my understanding challenged!

The way you've quoted me makes me look like an arrogant so and so, who's making a statement, which I wasn't, and that you seem only too happy to try and correct...

I was going on what Gibbo himself said on here late last week.

Anyway, got any links to the Q6600 G0 owners threads? I've seen one or two postings for non quad G0's, but not the Q6600's, which is what we were talking about and which are subject to the 'picking charge'...

Yes. Wait until they sell out of B3's.

The situation here is this. G0 is the newer stepping of the ordinary Q6600. OcUK are basically charging a premium for letting purchasers bodyswerve the old stock and go straight to the new stuff. At some point (very soon I would have thought) there will be no more B3's left and there will only be G0's and the premium will be un-necessary.

What I dislike enormously is fact that any retailer would debit your card for a product they can't give an ETA on. And especially on a product (they must be aware) that has a lower recommended retail price than the current product. If there was ever a scenario designed to upset buyers, this is it. By buying one of these at the +£10 price you will get a G0 stepping CPU at the same time as the rest of us, but at a higher price, and having paid for it now, instead of when you actually get it. Especially when you can pretty much guarantee some retailers will run out their stock of B3's before others.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to prove you wrong in an adversarial manner, such as "no you muppet, people already have them so you're WRONG!!" ;) :D

Was just pointing out that some people already had them so there obviously were some G0s in the country. I was quoting the relevant bit and probably over-snipped a bit :)

What to Do About Cliff Jumpers ....

“If you don't want to pay what is a tiny premium …. “
“All you are paying that small premium ….. “

This subtle and cunning emphasis of “tiny”, “small”, and more shrivelling of sizes should this vein of discussion continues, is in aid of what and who? If a prospective buyer or commentator has his own valuation to stand by, which small and tiny minded, self-disrespecting imposter or prospective pimp is saying, grooming, alluding to others lack of direction, that otherwise is the correct course of action?

Like those modern butt-sellers aka “reporters” making news as opposed to merely reporting it, should people not let the dumb, stupid, clever, intelligent, astute or whatever, be who and what they are when it comes to mere commentary? So, if the £10 is acceptable, go for it but if it is not, let no up-and-coming pimp dictates otherwise. Life is about the truth in any given matter, not “the truth as my agenda sees fit”. Does “a community” aims to benefit certain individuals or all. Suggest by all means if you are absolute in your vision like seeing someone walking towards a cliff but don’t be connaiving by merely asking that potential cliff jumper whether his last will & testament includes you.

Any idea on prices?

Obviously not asking where you found them, just what model and what price... so we can see what to expect from OcUK :)

Haven't noticed any difference on the OcUK site yet :(

Hi there

OcUK has not changed its prices because we have already dropped them. :)

Are you aware of a competitor doing a Q6600 for £175 delivered?

And it isn't a deal of the week or anything like that.

Hi there

We can't always be the cheapest at everything, but the price drop has happened, hence why these CPU's have now come down from the £225+ they previously were. :)
