ie, something that you can turn to stop any water passing and remove tubing from the otherside with minimal spillage

(for moving cases with external watercooling)

I'd be interested in something like this too as I want a drain port on a custom case I'm building

i have messed with a ball valve on a turbo setup to act as an oil pressure restrictor since b-series vtec engines hit 90-95psi sometimes, far too much for a turbo.

That was a restrictor though, the one on OcUK claims to provide a total leak proof seal.

eek... yeah ball bearing turbo needs about a max of about 45psi oil pressure else you'll screw the turbo ASAP. Sleeve bearings can take much higher pressure than BB turbos.

Back on topic:
Use any valve that fits really :) Obviously anything in the flow with cause turbulence and restriction so try and get the one with least restriction.

ok, i see how it works

anyone got any pics 'through' the hole of the ocuk one?

You can get quick release self sealing fittings as well. Similar to the hosepipe fittings but smaller. Someone on here had some last year. Can't find where to get the damn things though as i am after a few of these myself. I reckon tropical fish retailers would be the best bet. A ball valve would work but you would need one on each side of the pipe with a threaded connector in between.

I used to use eheim couplers the same as the ones that came with my external aquarium pump ... worked fine for me! They screw into each other and both sides have a valve.

currently i'm using ones used for gas, but they seem to restrict the flow a LOT

goodshot, there's no way in hell i'd trust that, lol

Eheim Double Tap Connector 9mm (part number 400394)
3/8 with clips but quite long

Eheim Double Tap Connector 12mm (part number 4004412)
works nicely with 1/2" but quite long

Both about £10inc from UK stores

or for twice the price unless you've got friends in the US
Koolance do some lovely stuff.

About £25inc for each two piece Valve! for uk stores (SKU VL3-M13S + VL3-F13S)
or $40 a pair inc bracket and clip from US :( (SKU: VL3-13BKT)

There's also a barb version but it's only avaliable in the US as far as I know, all above have compression fittings

Get the VL3 versions (high flow) and not the shorter VL2 (low profile)
The older VLV range is good too, but more restrictive.

Third option (and cheapest) is using the Zalman quick cupplings from the Reservator's
Can be got as a spair, but very restrictive (6mm ID) so not advised for high flow systems, work fine as designed.

£5inc for uk stores

Hope that helps - been looking into this for a while :)

would work fine - but small ID
You'd still need to dissconnect the loop in some way.

Two separated by a small piece of tube would do it - close valves - cut/disconnect tube - replace tube on reinstall - not ideal but a cheap working alturnative to a quick release

Are these the Eheim connectors you are on about? 9-16mm double connectors about a third of the way down the page. Fish and Fins are'nt exactly the cheapest fish supplier i use but they are very good. I will see if i can find them anywhere else.

***Edit*** This place sells them as well but up to 25mm. About half way down the page.

i would sugest something like this

tee%20valve.jpg

that way no need to disconnect anything.....just turn the valve and the system drains, the compession fittings will clamp onto tubing with a nice tight seal.
