In the process of playing with my system that I am building, do the sppeds from my M4 look about right?

SATA 3 port? I thought the M4 write speeds were faster?

In line with my Force 3 though for the others:

Speeds are correct for a 128GB M4, you have to take into account that M4's writes aren't affected by the types of data they write, where's Sandforce drives like your Force 3 are.

Pretty sure it's the same thing as Secure Erase which won't be needed on the M4 either because they don't have write throttling like Sandforce based drives.

Speeds look fine depending on the size of your SSD.

Read speeds for all sizes are up to 550MB/s and that's about where you're at.

Write speeds vary depending on the size of the SSD:

  • 64GB up to 110MB/s
  • 128GB up to 220MB/s
  • 256GB up to 300MB/s
  • 512GB up to 300MB/s

Just quick format the drive during install and install Windows as normal.

As you can see in this Anandtech review a format restored full write performance.

The only reason Sandforce drives need Secure erase is because the firmware will permanently throttle the write performance after a certain number of writes or a lot of writes in a short period of time.

ok, what about just deleting the partition instead of a quick format?

also do i have to log off once a week with this M4 drive like with sandforce drives?
