Some head sets come with USB sound crads, presumably for post processing of the sound, but do they acctualy make a difference.

In particular does the USB sound crad for the sennheiser PC 330 G4ME make much if any difference and is it worth the extra ~£20?

Crad? Obviously not a typo, as you've put it three times.

Depends if you have onboard audio, or a sound card. If you have onboard audio, then either-or, probably not a huge amount in it as far as sound quality goes.

If you have a sound card, then that will be better than the USB thing, or at least should be.

Headsets, such as the PC333D's, that are USB, have surround sound capabilities. If your onboard audio does not, then you would just get plain stereo from an analogue headset.

well thats embarrassing:rolleyes:! I did mean cards, but I never check the post before posting and was typing in a hurry!

Thanks for the reply, I'v not got a sound card and am only using the onboard sound (I presume!). To sound like a noob once more, the onboard sound, would that be suplied by my MSI p67-gd53 mobo, or my i5 2500K CPU?

:D

The onboard sound is part of the motherboard. Just looking on the MSI site, the board you have doesn't have any surround sound processing for stereo headset/headphones.

Without buying a sound card, if you wanted positional sound, you would either have to get a stereo headset that has a USB sound device for 5.1/7.1, or a headset with multiple drivers, such as the Roccat Kave's, which connect directly to the onboard sound, via three 3.5mm jacks.
