Do you always have to wait 48 hours before collecting a parcel from a RM depot?

As title really, missed a parcel today, says on it please wait 48 hours before I go to collect it. Just wondering if this always the case as I've got some free time now to drive down and collect it.

Don't want to go down there and they shun me away, tried ringing through but there is no answer.

Well our local royal mail is literally 5mins down the road, yet they write on the card 24hours until i can collect it,just stupid.

I always go the same day and demand my parcel.

I've only ever gotten 24 hours on my cards, but I think it's to allow for the possibility that it was attempted to be delivered on the last run of the day, and might not get back to the depot before customer hours finish. It's just a way to ensure that it is deffo there when you go to collect.

i always go first thing the next day, it's never 24 hrs, but it's always there... one day when they looked for a parcel and said "oh he's not back yet" and this was a missed collection from friday and it was monday morning lol! it turned it it was unusual packaging and it was there all along.

at the local one here you can only collect upto 11am, so that's why they say 24hrs (next day) because they dont want anyone there in the afternoon.

Always have been 24 hours (Portsmouth) but since Xmas, it's been 48 hours! Utterly stupid when you have a card dropped on Friday and you can't pick up till Monday.

Meh.

I went to the local sorting office today to pick up a spoiler that i'd missed delivery of.

The card said large item and the area for my surname is in the little office so could see that there was only one large item there and was blatantly my spoiler.

Still watched him as he checked every small package first though as it was fun to observe the creature in his natural habitat. :p

You can always try - but you might be disappointed. It depends when the van gets back from its round.

I went over a couple of hours after an attempted delivery once and it was there - this was in the morning! That was pretty unusual.

It really depends on the postie with the parcel mate, if it was one of these who just card you then you would most likely get to go straight down, but if he had the parcel on him when doing his round it could be 4/5pm after he's finished doing his round and stuff which means the parcel wouldn't of went back to the depot untill after it was shut (24hrs).

48hrs must mean hes breaking it in for you before hand.

KaHn

I always pick mine up on Saturday, so if they tried to deliver on Friday I go to get it and if they tried to deliver on a Saturday I wait until just before they close to go and get it.

I always go on a Saturday because, in order to deliver a more efficient service, our parcel collection office now only opens whilst most people are at work.

It depends.

Nearer Christmas they were saying 24-48hrs, but I'm almost certain that it's usually 6-8hrs. Unless they've changed their policy.

Remember to take some ID with you.. I've made that mistake :o

Depends, sometimes they leave it at the local post office or the depot a little further away. Either way the wait time is anywhere from 1 - 12 hours, never had one for 48 hours!
