Do you always have to wait 48 hours before collecting a parcel from a RM depot?

The 48 hours is just a safety thing for them really, so that they don't have to worry about you turning up before the guy's got back with the van and demanding that your parcel should be ready for pickup immediately. The vast majority of the time you shouldn't have any problem getting it earlier, I normally go to the post office the next day just to avoid finding out that it's still out on the van but you can always try going a bit earlier if you don't mind being possibly told it's not back yet.

They have asked me to come back 24 hours later a day after I was carded, my card said 48hours. (I was at uni and didn't realised they changed the time for the Portsmouth Deport!)

Surely he should be back within 24 hrs? :p

Well our local royal mail is literally 5mins down the road, yet they write on the card 24hours until i can collect it,just stupid.

I always go the same day and demand my parcel.

Its not really stupid considering the postman carries the parcel about with him until the end of his round (around 2pm).. its then left in a lockbox where its picked up by a driver around 5pm... and then held in the office.

So 24hrs is perfectly reasonable.

I only do 48hrs on Saturdays, because sundays the office is closed

we're not allowed to leave the parcels in the lockboxes - we've either to :-

return them to the depot - thats 2 buses and a 15 minute walk

or

put them in the blue bag, and hand into the P.O. - 20 minute walk away

I take mine to the P.O. and the van driver collects them from there when he's doing his rounds - God only knows what happens to it then, once it took a whole week for mine to be returned to the Depot, I was really starting to worry as it also contained somebody's exam results - apparently it had been for a wee tour around the country before it was returned to me

Usualy a minimum of 2 working days before any of my parcels have been back in the sorting office, have had plenty end up in completely different towns before coming back here too.
