Do you believe it?

It's possible during the night and very early morning but nigh on impossible any other time. I managed Holyhead - Bournemouth in 4 hours once and that's about 350 miles.

It was all in the middle of the night and there wasn't another car in sight for most of it.
 
It could be done, it would have to done at night though in this day and age. About 10 years ago just after I passed my test without fear of being caught speeding or a thought for the car I made it from Alton Towers to Bathgate (between Edinburgh and Glasgow) in 2 and half hours that was 230 miles I think, I basically sat at 110 all the way in a 90bhp TD Xantia. A TD could do the 427mile trip without stopping for a refill even if sitting at 100 and would be pretty quiet due to the tall gearing.

It would silly to attempt those speeds these days for that length of time but back then I remember being passed by plenty of cars and there weren't any temp speed cameras to worry about either.
 
For some reason I'm even more paranoid about getting done for speeding late at night :confused:

Also I don't think the op's time is possible, well possible but not for any sane person :D

Easily possible to cruise at 120+ going to and from Pembroke Dock at night... see no reason why 100+ isn't possible going to Scotland.

the sheer amount of cameras and potential spottings by traffic police says there is a reason.
to even consider doing this is madness, let alone try it.

Maybe compared to aberdeen but its really not to bad for speed cameras.

I can say i have inly ever seen a scamera van about 3 or 4 times never seen one on the Motorway ie M8
 
Done Kilmarnock to Luton in 3 hours 45 mins (398 miles)
That was with 3 fuel stops

Although it was 15 years ago and on a bike .

I managed Brownhills (not far off J11 of the M6) to St. Andrews (360 miles iirc) in exactly 5 hours.

That was fun.

M6 - no probs, A74(M) - no probs, M73, no probs, A80 -> home was a potential nightmare. Got a cracking run through it all :)

Maintained average of 70 the whole way & managed it on 1 tank.

Not as impressive as some others here but pretty quick I felt. Shocked the parents when I showed up nearly 2 hours early :p
 
i used to do cardiff to newcastle in 5 hours in traffic and just under 4 when it was a bit quieter.

that wasnt really booting it though, i know that i could have hammered the A19, A1M, M42 (2 lane section), M5 a lot harder than I did!
 
With modern cars its easily possible to do this sort of thing but frankly anyone doing it needs to make sure their driving license is not important to them becuase the chances of being able to sustain high speeds for hours on end and not attract any attention from the local constabularly are minimal.

It's not worth the risk. Stick to 90 (km/h of course) becuase at least then when you get caught its only 3 points.
 
When I was commuting to uni I could do it in around 3 hours, but that was cruising at 120 all the way during the night. Back when speed cameras weren't so common.

427 miles in 4h28 is going to require going very fast.

Possibly if you push the accelerator down to the floor...and maybe some actions & be prepared for a driving ban! :D
 
Don't think there are many cars that will do 420+ miles to the tank, at 100+ speeds thats for sure.
