i fill to the brim. mainly because i get 300 miles to a full tank and i hate filling stations.

Cheapskates: remember that with the general upward trend in fuel prices, you should get as much as you can - it might be more expensive on the next visit, and is unlikely to be cheaper

I always brim my MX5, but with my VW T4 I usually can't as I normally use "pay@pump" and they cut off at £99 and that leaves me a little off full. :( I should remember to fill up sooner, but instead I wait until the light comes on.

Normally I brim mine, but the overflow tank has developed a slight leak, so only going to approx 3/4's right now until I can get it sorted.

Brim it till its nearly comming out, less trips to the pump that way. done 3 tanks this month :(, been portsmouth, cannock a few times, sherwood pines and few times.

Can anyone re-iterate how fuel 'goes off' please.

Petrol goes off after a certain amount of time, but its usually if the car has been in storage. This can be seen in lawn mowers where they have been stored for the winter and are tricky to start until you drain the fuel and put some fresh petrol in them. For useage in cars with respect to brimming the tank, its a non issue.

The lexus gets brimmed, I like to keep a log of the true MPG.

The MR2 gets roughly what I think the journey costs, I barely use the car so would rather it have fresh fuel when I do take it out.

I have an elderly customer that still get's her dead husbands mk2 granada mot'd every year, and it only drives to the mot station then back to the garage once a year, thats it. In the past 10 years it's still been using the original fuel and has never been replaced, and still runs like it should. I don't think fuel going off in a car you use even semi regularly is an issue.

Provided the tank isn't corroding and is airtight, there is no reason for the fuel to ever go off :p. The petrol is already a few million years old so 10 more years will not hurt it, provided it is kept in a suitable condition i.e. a non-knackered fuel tank.

I don't do that many miles as I walk to work. I like to brim the tank within a week after payday so I know I have enough for the month ahead. The only month in the last 2 years that I have had to fill up more than once per month is when I went to the OCUK RR day.

I always put exactly 22 litres in, unless i'm doing a long trip. Lasts me about 10 - 12 days. I live within a mile of a shell garage and pass it on the way to and from work so it's nae bother.

Brim till it's full then keep going for another few l :)

Company fuel card however has made me totally lose sight of the cost as I pay zero attention to the ££, it's all about getting my points :)

Nope, I'm sharing a car with my sister at the moment. If I just filled the thing she would take the **** more than she does now. I sometimes get lucky and she is actually forced to put £5 in. This would occur less if I brimmed it lol.

We don't use the car much anyway maybe 3k a year between us.

yup, once the light comes on it gets brimmed at the next opportunity. I don't drive the car more if there's more fuel in it, the price of fuel rarely falls and the I don't derive joy from going to the petrol station - so why do it more than required.
