Do you clean your wheelie-bin?

Yes, ours are pristine, I'll regularly hose/mop the inside of the household recycling bin, not so much the green waste as grass cuttings/hedge trimmings don't smell :D

All out if sight too, wheelie bins on property fronts are a complete eyesore.
Good man!

Bins should be kept out of sight if possible. If not then they should be stored on your property. Keeping your bin on the road is a very chavvy thing to do.

Used to have ours cleaned by a guy that came round, a pound each I think, not seen him for a while though. Ours never got all that dirty or smelly but for the sake or £2 a month I might as well, and happy to support someone trying to make a living.

On the topic of bins.

How many bins does everyone have?

I have been considering purchasing a third bin for my kitchen, for food only.

At the moment i put food in with my main rubbish and have another bin for recycling. I just it would be easier to deal with at the rubbish end if the food was not mixed up with the other rubbish. But then it probably all ends up in middle of Atlantic ocean anyway so does it realy matter?

3, when the house over the road was empty, I took their 2, the house is still empty so they aren't missed.

I take it when you put the bins out, it's ambiguous as to which house they belong to? Our council are only allowed to empty one bin per house unless it's one of the special "approved" ones with a special coloured lid.

In my old house I did after that strike we had a few years back. Loads of maggots in it. Also did it twice when I borrowed my Dads pressure washer to clean down the front path. Anyone who's had a pressure washer knows that EVERYTHING gets washed when that comes out.

We don't have them where we live now. People think they look 'council cacky' . Personally I'd rather have wheelie bins than cats ripping peoples rubbish open all through the week.

When I had a wheelie bin I used to from time to time. Just used to put some bleach and pour boiling water, then fill it with a hose, slosh it about a bit, and then emptied it. I'm sure it didn't do much, but it certainly stopped it smelling.

Whilst I'm careful with bags etc... bags can split, and there's nothing worse than a smelly bin.

Since my oldest cat stopped going out in the winter and uses a litter tray (fully emptied every 3 days and scooped after use) my bin smells by the time it gets emptied. I double bag all the litter but it still comes back smelly. So yes I wash it after it has been emptied. Just use some bleach and hot water. It didn't start smelling until the spring / summer, in the winter it didn't seem to smell. It is all about the bad smell if it was just dirty I wouldn't care.

No, I have better things to do with my life/time :) - It sits in my back garden and gets emptied once a week (usually only produce 1 black bag of rubbish a week anyway) when the rubbish gets collected on a Friday. It pongs a bit after 3 years but doesn't affect anyone that I know of.
