Inspired by the charidee thread I was wondering if anyone on here ever does any work on a voluntary basis?

It could be work directly for a charity. It could be work for a youth or sports organisation (thinking scouts, coaching - that sort of thing) or it could just be helping your elderly neighbour with her shopping every week. You might even do professional pro bono* work.

I personally do a lot of work in community rugby. I am a Director of a Rugby Club as well as being Club Secretary, Membership Manager (Acting), Fixtures Sec, Match Sec as well as sitting on the county competitions committee. It probably all amounts to a part time job - unpaid! The club I am involved in has about 600 members, most of them parents of u18 players. It does feel like I am doing something worthwhile with my time.

Anyone else?

(Could a Don add a pole?**)

*I am most certainly anti Bono.
** Or any other Eastern European .

The only voluntary work I'd actually be interested in is things like rescue and sea rescue.

No sea near me for one, so there goes coast guard voluntary work. And the local staffordshire rescue team needs people who can drive, I do not drive. I did contact the leader of the team, he responded with a generic look at the site reply. So I guess he's a busy man.

I'd love to volunteer my time, but as I say only on a rescue team/environment basis.

I am part of a youth project, helping out with a magazine, and also part of my Student Union on the welfare committee, does that count?

No.

But I'm already busy looking after friends/family, a few local sick people from time to time.

More importantly I don't cause any mess or **** for other people to have to volunteer time to clean up (emotional or material)

No not at the moment - I used to have a show on hospital radio :p

But I DO support a lot of charities and am looking for a new Charity of the year and a soup kitchen to volunteer at for work.

I used to do loads. Helped young kids read in my school, worked with special needs adults once a week. Worked with special needs adults during my summer holidays for a few days a week. Used to help setup lights and sound for my school and for special events held at my school loads back in sixth form.

Unfortunatly university has stolen most of my time now so I can't. I was looking into going into East London schools to help students improve their chances of getting into medical school with personal statement help, mock interviews, helping arrange work experience etc. I just never got around to it...

I was a rider for SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers - out of hours blood delivery for hospitals) but have stopped for health reasons.
I also used to ride for SERV unitl I moved out of their operating areas.

I now am a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service and also volunteer for Yorks-Links 4x4 Response as per my sig below.

Yep, I do 15 hours a week at my local animal shelter.

It's my paid job too, but do 15 hours ontop as a volunteer.
