...illness?

Now before this gets deleted for seeming like a medical advice thread, it is not, I am not asking for help/advice, and I'd like to keep the thread clear of that so it doesn't get wiped out. :p

What I am asking, is if anyone else tends to have the same cycle of common illness like I do?

For example, the common and reoccurring illness I get always starts off as a sore throat, then moves to a snotty nose after 2 days, then the next day a dry cough, followed by 2 days of phlegmy coughs and then I am healthy again.

It's ALWAYS the same for me in terms of symptoms and timescales, and as a result is really annoying as I know if I am likely to be ill for an upcoming event.

This thread prompted by me being on day 4 (dry cough) and having a date tomorrow :(

I get throat infections, this is the only thing I ever suffer with. I can "feel" them before they arrive too.

Over winter - aye, I'm almost constantly a little bit snotty, sneezy, and the occasional sore throat. Starts in about October and carries through 'til April or so!

Mind you, I'm saying this with a wonderfully clear nose - I did sneeze last night but that may be from dust I kicked up. So maybe it's over for this year :D

I know this, but it isn't about the fact that I've got an infection, it's that every time I get an infection, it plays out in exactly the same manner.

I never get a sore throat day 1, cough day 2, and then fine day 3, it's ALWAYS the same lifecycle, and I was wondering if other also had a recurring theme in their sicknesseseses :p

I used to get this problem when I was a kid, not so much anymore.

Any of the following three combination one after the other;

Cold
Ear Infection
Stomache bug

Was strange, but grown out of it now thank god.

Sounds like a not very bad 5 day common cold to me.

When I get those I believe I can get a better recovery and less nasty symptoms by sticking to paracetamol instead of cold remedies designed to dry up those "wet" symptoms, and drink loads of water to decrease the viscosity of those unpleasant secretions making it easier to get rid of them - the danger is they they are thick and sticky they can stay in your lungs and then you'll be onto secondary infections and weeks of catarrh etc.

I get an ear infection every 8 months without fail, it's been like this for around 6 years now! They always seem to occur during the night too, a quick trip to A&E to get one pack of Penicillin and one pack of Codeine and I'm sorted after 4 days. It's really annoying though :(

Take Vitamin C. Not advice, just a great picker upper.

P.S. You're not taking one of these actice yoghurt things are you? My wife and I must be in the 0.000001% that they don't help. They left us with recycling cold/flu symptoms, and we couldn't figure out what was causing it for ages. :(

Nope to the yogs, and I take multi-vits every day, and start a course of echinacea the second I feel something a-brewing. Nothing stops the cycle though, at best they lessen the symptoms.

I, personally, don't see anything in Echinacea, but, if it works for you then great. How much Vitamin C is in your multivit? I take at least a 1000mg tablet a day, and have been advised, at times, to take three of those (history of severe asthma). Vitamin C is the only vitamin you can't take too much of.

You are describing the normal physiological response to an infection.
