Do you floss?

Yes, every day on the advice of my dentist. As a result gums are apparently healthier.

Also read somewhere last year that there is a link between unhealthy gums and cardiac problems - something to do with all the bacteria getting into the bloodstream through bad gums and doing damage to heart valves etc.

I've read a similar thing, but it also applies to cavities.

Flossing?

Pretty sure they polish teeth as well.

Isn't that normally done by your dentist with what was a scale and polish if needed at check up time?

The hygenist aspect is more around poor oral health overall, especially interdental areas, and the dentist recommends it.

Perhaps thats just my dentist though.

When I see the hygenist she does the whole water abrasion jet/manual tooth scraping then polishing routine.

My dentist this time was involved with sorting out my wisdom teeth/fillings. I suspect the dentist would do it himself if I had no other issues for him to sort.

I have a bridge which I should floss daily. But I don't & I end up running the risk of a gum infection. Which isn't pleasant as the front of my mouth swells up like a balloon & its a course of antibiotics & several visits to the Dentist, which I hate. :(
