Do you go through phases of interest? I don't know if it's just me, but i can only concentrate on 1 'phase' at a time. Mine are gym, doing the house up, gaming and cars.

One month, i'll be totally obsessed with gaming, then Gym, then cars, then doing things around the house. Whilst i'm in a phase, i have no interest in the other phases at all. Can't be arsed reading up or learning about any of the other phases until i get bored and move on to the next.

Example, i was well into doing gym stuff. Reading up on nutrition, learning exercises, spending loads of time trawling bodybuilding forums, buying gym equipment spending days, weeks at a time doing it, then rinse and repeat with the other phases and not showing any interest in bodybuilding what so ever.

At the moment, i'm in a gaming phase. Spending way to much time reading the pc games section, watching reviews and playing games. I really want to get back into the bodybuilding phase, but the gaming phase is just to addictive to pull away at the moment.

Do any of you do the same?

i do but im autistic so its totally normal for be to be obessed about something to the point of learning everything about it :D

Completely.

I got into skateboarding and skated 24/7. I got into guitars and played it 24/7. Then I got into gym like you and went to gym everyday. I spent a lot on food and shakes. Then I got into PC gaming again then back into gym. Then I got into camcorders and making videos and then I got into making music. Then photography etc etc. Oh yeah then Audiophile stuff.

Now I kinda do all these things in rotation depending on my mood.. I can't do gym at the moment no money for it. Gaming is taking a priority in the cold dark days of winter.

Yes, but for longer periods. Perhaps six months, rather than the one. I seem to be able to sustain anything for six months, to the point of obsession, before it's time for a change. I think i have the slowest case of ADHD ever diagnosed.

My problem is inertia though. I can't move gradually from one state of being to another. I have to sabotage my life so that i plummet on one down-swing, just to build momentum for the next up-swing.

Roller-coasters aren't just for fairgrounds!

Isn't this is one of the vital elements of the success of mankind though? Someone gets into a phase and creates innovative ideas that even the most experienced would not have thought of?

Yes, I was interested in this thread. By the time I had got to the bottom I was out of that phase :p

Unfortunately, Isaac Newton's Alchemy 'phase' lasted his entire life. Luckily he managed to work out all the mavity stuff in between attempts at turning lead into gold.

True story.

Comedy gold.
Someone must know about this, the history of science is not my forte but there must be some key discoveries from the local chippie having a temporary phase?

Everybody gets these phases.
I try and do everything at once and just end up not having enough time. In which case I end up going to sleep at 3am and waking up at 7 just for another day of trying to do everything again.

Gaming for me is low priority, it goes on hold, haven't done any gaming for weeks :(

Alchemy gets a lot of stick, it's not all about turning lead into gold. A lot of really good, useful stuff came from Alchemists.

Yep, no doubt chemistry was born from Alchemy. And no doubt at some stage, every single chemist tried to turn something into gold!

I'm still hoping that one of the phases i go through will include vast and original insights that lead me to great wealth. Of course it'll have to happen within a six month window otherwise i'll just get bored and move onto my next project! :p

My current phase is sitting on my fat ass reading OcUK and yes, I have zero interest in anything else while this is happening :D
