Do you guys use FLUX, or any other display dimming software?

I can't remember who told me about FLUX but it was someone on this forum, I used to forever suffer with headaches and migraines, I work in IT and my main hobby is gaming so I spent a lot of time in front of computers... Now I never get headaches/migraines from computer use, it's amazing. Best thing ever.

As it seems a few people think that F.Lux reduces the screen's brightness, I'd just like to point out that it doesn't actually change the brightness, it just applies a filter to the display to change the colour temperature.

Harsh blue biased light can be a strain on your eyes in the evening and in low ambient light. So flux applies a warming filter to your display to reduce eye strain. The brightness or light output is still the same it just is less harsh due to being warmer in tone.

I use f.lux, but I'm not too sure about my settings... it was pretty jarring at first, the orange tint was a bit too much, so I turned down the settings a bit. Been gradually turning it up to around the 3400k mark like a few other people in this thread. I try not to look at the display for too long without taking some sort of break, but it definitely helps with strain in general.

No my monitor's colour and brightness is pretty good and I don't do too much reading at night plus it would annoy me to have to remember to turn it off each time I booted a game up

It's not about how good your monitor's brightness or colour is. It's about the colour temperature. It's a warming filter that reduces the strain on your eyes.

It's also disabled whenever you enter a full screen application, so you don't need to turn it off when opening up a game.

The thing that is unreal that the people using this FLUX app will become so used to 3000k that if they ever see 6500k again they'll think it's far too blue. Yet the people thats so used to 8500k displays can't adjust to 6500k thinking its far too warm.

To be honest, I don't notice that at all.
I notice the change at night, but if I use it in the daytime everything seems normal to me.

nope! Because I didn't get an IPS screen just for the image quality to look crap :p

As long as you take breaks from the PC every 30 min or so for a few minutes and don't have a stupidly high brightness for your monitor, you shouldn't get eye strain, well at least I don't yet....

Just gave it a bash will see how it goes over the next few days

Even for this evening while its still a bit bright outside, its made a nice difference text is sharp but the rest is kinda paler.... 3400k (night) eyes feel bit more relaxed already despite my tft being set to 10/10 contract/brightness.

So far so good !

I recently started using this as well. I only use it when I'm doing uni work/reading though. What's the correct way to set it up?

I just clicked the icon in the task bar, hit settings and changed daytime and night to lowest setting, you can also put your location in there so it can adjust morning/night auto.

3400k seems to be nice and easy on my eyes am liking this software it makes it better then my own night time settings at least!

It's absolutely essential. If it ever turns off for any reason at night you realise how horrific it would be using the screen without it.
