Do you have a domain name?

Don't need to be famous to have one, it's just handy to have and I can setup my own email addresses and stuff. Makes me look smarter than I really am.

I've got my own, but only use it for email and it was free!

having an catch all enabled domain is useful for signing up to websites
ie you can have [email protected] and if they ever leak/sell your address, you know exactly where it came from!

I did that until I started getting scatter-back spam, ie someone spoofed my domain when sending spam - all the spam that didn't reach the recipient... I got notified about it!

Ever since then I've been relying on sites not blocking '+' from email addresses to do the same thing. An infuriatingly large number of places don't let you register with [email protected]

I picked up the<surname>house.co.uk a few years ago and all the family have email accounts (although the kids have mostly migrated to gmail or similar for their main email accounts now - apparently having your own domain-hosted email account with the family name in it is 'lame' )

I have an unusual surname and own the .co.uk & .uk, my dad owns the .com.

It's nice to have just for the email address.

Yes!

Registered my firstnamesurname.co.uk many years ago which I use for email, recently picked up the .uk version as I prefer it over the .co.uk.

Ok, well it's not really to do with names of people, but my brother has splashed out on a few domains. Mainly on the .social or the .pub ones, which he believes might become big one day. He has bristol.social, islam.pub and a few others along the lines (we're non religious Britons, so that Islam.pub is lol to the family)
As far as I'm aware, the .social and .pub domains are pretty much cons at the moment aren't they? Although my brother had someone interested in his bristol.social one before, but surely most of the domains on sale are pretty much just worthless crap? That's the way I see it

I have 812 domains in my registrar account fortunately 811 of them are customer domains though, the other is mine for dev. work but I didn't fancy using any part of my name in it.

When you setup your email address for your domain do you use first [email protected] or do you use something different for the first part?

haha

I tend to use different addresses I delete them all the time when signing up for stuff where I know they are just going to spam you after.

(looking at you discount game websites ;) )

I use [email protected] for a lot of forum signups. Only time I'll visit that address is to get the confirm e-mail. Tis also easier to set up the account via cpanel than to create a fake account on yahoo etc.

Yep, bought mine about 12 years ago, firstnamelastname.co.uk. .com was already taken up and has never become available. The domain costs me £2 for 2 years I think, plus hosting costs.

I have a domain name but not any variation of my name (I got in very early in the gmail cycle and got [email protected] sown up). Sharing my surname with the first name of a rather well known singer means pretty much any worthwhile variation of that domain is squatted.

Sounds like a good idea :p, i guess the number of email addresses your allowed for that domain name is down to the provider hosting it?

I've bought 3/4 domains which include my first/last names, with/without hyphens. Never stuck to using them to be honest for a couple of different reasons, these days I just use gmail for my primary email address. I do still own a handful of domains, but there for other projects/nothing todo with my name :)

I have andys(dot)xxx registered for a good number of years.

ToGmail(dot)com and QofG(dot)com plus a few more
