Do you keep some old games just for sentimental reasons?

Last night we went through some old games to sell as we are a bit short on cash and we decided to sell my 33 SNES games as the SNES doesn't work anyway but even so I could not allow Super Metroid to be sold, too many good memories about that game.

Also with my PS1 games I could not sell Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo 1 and 2 and on the PS2 I kept Gran Turismo 3 and 4 and Final Fantasy X, X-2 and XII

My girlfriend was just saying that I never play them anyway and that those games are the ones that are actually worth something but I had to be firm about this and I will keep them, does that sound stupid?

Do you have some old games you did not sell or don't want to sell?

For years I kept loads of old games then decided there was no point as they just sat there gathering dust, got rid of the lot.

I'm not a big fan of selling games anyway. I always tend to hold on to games for too long. By the time I come to get rid of them they are not worth much and I think I'd rather keep them than get a few quid for them.

As for keeping them for sentimental reasons - any game I've really enjoyed I probably wouldn't think about selling.

I thought so too, but my 33 SNES games are still worth 150 euro if I sell them to a retro company, the sale value is over 300 euro which kinda surprised me.

I'm really bad for this! So many old games that I never use that I just can't get rid of. I have sealed bags of them in the garage :P Everything from Master System up to PS2 >_>

Most of the ones I can't bare to lose are either ones I really loved or ones I got as gifts (I'm way too sentimental)...

Trying to stop doing this though, I do it for stuff other than games too - my house is a tip! :P

Yup, I've got quite a few old games I just can't sell (like Eternal Darkness and Ninja Gaiden), and I'll no doubt keep them forever as I wouldn't get much for them now anyway.

Still got my entire PS1 collection, I found it a few months back and its in a box with CD cases, manuals and the lot. Even got my memory cards, but not the console.

I stupidly sold my PS2 collection, but I've decided to NEVER sell any PS3 game I buy, and I'm trying to get back some I sold.

I feel buying and keeping a game is a really good way to remember the good old days. I'm very sentimental about Gran Tourismo on the PS1. Will never sell that.

I tried to explain to my girlfriend that everytime I see an old box like Final Fantasy VII it gives me great memories about the game and the fun I had playing it but she just laughed and did not understand :( (but she has boxes full of stufffed animals and toys, but that is different according to her)

So I stopped the conversation before I had to explain I am also a completionist and don't stop some games until I have seen everything and done everything, haha

Ive still got the original Command and Conquer Gold CD's around somewhere...stopped playing it years and years ago, but keeping it forever anyway, love C&C so much, gives me great memories :)

Mate do yourself a favour, and don't bother explaining to her. Its a boys toy thing, they have their cuddly toys, we have our games etc.. Just find a decent space in the house to store it all and just don't tell her.

My gf has a bed full or bloody cuddly bears from when she was a teenage, I can hardly get in the bed because of it... lol

they don't understand, it was like I was trying to tell my gf last night about how excited I am about F1 2010 and I'll be playing this for months - went in one ear, out the other.

I'll give her some attention an hour before I play F1 2010, pander to her needs etc to keep her happy then she'll feel all special and needed, she'll potter off swimming or to her mates or something... *evil laugh* living room will be mine, all mine and I can play F1 2010 for hours. lol the perfect crime.

PS3 has BBC iplayer, so sadly she's worked out how to use the BD PS3 remote and use it to find holby city and eastenders, but means the PS3 stays downstairs.. always ways and means to get your hobby in the house and keep it there and not moaned at by the missus.. lol

When i was younger i used to buy soooo many games and trade/sell them only keeping the games i played on a regular basis, Now i only buy and keep the games i want. I know i will never play them again but its cool to keep, i have a box full of old megadrive games a shelf full of old boxed PC games and a wardrobe shelf full of my PS2 stuff i just havent got the heart to sell them or throw them away.

On a side note i did read about sony putting a patent in for an external PS2 device for the PS3 which is good news as my old PS2 dosent work anymore so theres even more reason to keep them now :p

What has always surprised me is that in the movies and music industry, back catalog of titles is mostly available and is, for most part transferred to the latest tech.

As in, you see Mozart re-mastered to CD, you see Terminator re-released on blu ray. Video games however, NES games are slowly let to dwindle and die.

We just don’t seem to protect IP with video games as we do with music and movies. Which is a great shame. The devices to playback SNES, NES, Megadrive and even PS1 and soon to be PS2 are becoming harder and harder to come by.

Instead we have to use emulators. Reason the IPF and ADF format has been created for the Amiga scene to protect a vast catalog of titles that would have most certainly been lost by now.

I find it a shame that teenagers coming up through the video games of today can’t actually pick up a classic like they can a movie and enjoy it. Say for example, its not as easy to pick up Wipeout 2097 for the PS1 as it would be to pick up the top movie from that time and play it…

The devices aren’t there, movies get transferred to new media, games don't, and even though Sony are trying to put a catalog of old PS games on PSN, its not enough… Such a shame old classics are being allowed to be lost like this..

That's a good point. The Megadrive/SNES/MAME emulators are priceless (although MAME is slightly different because you couldn't really buy the games in the first place). When they release a retro collection, it always seems a missed opportunity to me. There's usually one or two decent games and then a dozen not so good why-did-you-bother-including-this games on there. When you see how flawless Megadrive emulators run with no setting up, there's no reason why they couldn't just release a full Megadrive collection and have done with it. I'd buy that for the PS3.

Yeah, I've sold my PS3 with a bunch of games but Demon's Souls is staying put. I will eventually buy another PS3 and on that day Demon's Souls is going to be right there.

I dont know why Sega dont just release a huge selection of games on current console networks like they are doing on steam.

I've just been looking at the ones on steam. they aren't really worth the money. There needs to be a full set. Also, who would create sega classics and leave sonic out

Agreed.

For me its SoR I/II, Road Rash, MK I/II/III, Micro Machines, Snatcher (cd), Avenger (cd) on the MegaDrive. Flashback, Half-life for the PC. I've not found one yet on the 360, not been playing it enough :D

Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear solid

Both in awesome condition and pretty much kept because they're awesome games i cant let them go. I have both dumped on my hard drive for emulation, so i could sell them and play them still(Naughty) But i would never do it, I've had them since release day, and just cant let go of them. They're my babies :(

I had Final fantasy 8 and 9 and i sold those, it was like giving up children for adoption, only harder
