Do you keep your motherboard UEFI / BIOS up to date?

Used to but never again after 2 x brand new motherboards failed due to faulty manufacturer software not working with the latest bios! Cost me over £100 in postage costs & 6 weeks downtime to get new replacements even though I did nothing wrong when flashing the bios and the manufacturer just did not properly (or at all more like!!) test their own software with the latest bios!!

Which manufacture?

I see Spectre/Meltdown mentioned in this thread, saying this doesn't need a bios update as such, I guess because Windows has patched it with a driver or some such? But does this also apply to the Intel Management Engine security issue I also see elsewhere? As described here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025619/software.html . This page specifically says it is a different from the Spectre/Meltdown issue, and has to be fixed with a bios update.

I'm saying this because I recently updated the bios on my X99-Pro to the latest version, which says it was released to fix this issue in the microcode, and all I got was instant instability. I am not sure if I buggered the flashing process up or not, or if the management engine element was flashed correctly, as it auto re-booted umpteen times during the process. There seemed to be a separate BIOS flashing phase and a separate Intel ME flashing phase. Luckily I was able to flash back to my old bios to fix it. The funny thing was I was only updating the bios because I am thinking about going for an NVME ssd and wanted the system to be fully up to date for that. I only found out about this Intel ME thing after trying to find out why the system was unstable. Anyone else had any experience with this Intel ME bios update? I have certainly learnt my lesson anyway, leave it.

Always like to keep mine updated, mostly in the hopes of better ram overclocking since I'm on am4.

You need both BIOS and software patches for complete mitigation coverage. Ideally new hardware too but that's a side issue.
