The safest option is to nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure!

I always log out from everything (EDIT: When I've finished using it, obviously). Habit, mostly. It annoys me when things default to not allowing me to logout. The Steam client, for example. If you don't untick a box every time you log in it will always keep you logged in.
