Do you need FFDShow to get HD sound bit streamed over HDMI?

Hi...is FFDShow a requirement to get Dolby True HD and DTS-HD MA bit streaming over HDMI from my HTPC to my AV amp?

Just wondering if MPC-HC etc can handle this without needing extra software on the side. I've seen a few guides but they are all old and state that FFDShow is needed. Just wondered if MPC-HC had changed this yet?

I believe mpc-hc does it without ffdshow (Its been a while since I set mine up)

Newer xbmc certainly does

Use XBMC, it will solve all your problems

XMBC is great for a HTPC, but if like me you have multiple uses, then JRiver is better. I don't like the way XBMC takes over the whole screen.
