Do you need to lower a overclocked intel system when using 4 mem slots??

I have 4gb (2x2gb) at the moment and a e4800 overclocked to 3.6 with the memory running at the default speed of 400. Will I have to lower these settings at all when I decide to get another 4gb? See sig for system.

Cos with my amd system I had before, I tried 3gb of mem, but had to lower my fsb quite a way to make it stable, I took out the extra gb in the end cos the performace drop was notacable when playing games.

firstly the benefits of 8GB at the moment are debatable. also you need a 64bit OS. i know DDR2 is cheep at the moment. but you really do neaed to ask if you need 8GB or you just think it would get you more chicks.

it whould be a good idea to up the north bridge voltage, to give the memory controller a little help. as you are populating all your slots

the chances are at that clock you will be ok, just wack them in, up the north bridge. but i would do some proper stress testing again just to check its stable. you may have to reduce the clock, you don't really know till you get the ram.

Thanks. Well like theres no need for 8gb yet, plus Im using 32bit version of vista and I will upgrade to vista 64bit when games start using all my 3.3gb.

But like im thinking well ahead like in a years time or so, but it would be nice to know that id be able to stick another 4gb without any probs. Like Ive only had my new system for a week..lol:D

Upping northbridge voltage sounds reasonable.

I've heard that you may need looser timings than what you'd normally have when using all 4 slots also, which is something i'll be doing when i have the cash.

Ive left my mem setting on auto so the timings are on whatever the default setting are for my memory. Cos Ive heard with a intel system tight timing dont really do much for it, unlike a amd system, they love tight timings.

Yeh, it's mainly a benchmarking thing, but for me it's just trying to have everything on the right/fastest settings purely for principle.

I have the same CPU as you but the rest of it is different (well PSU is same :P)

My superpi was 10. something seconds for 1M.

I have set my 2GB Geil ULL 800 MHZ to the correct timings with a voltage of 2.1.

maybe it does make a difference?

*edit my CPU is clocked to almost 3.8 on standard cooler, maybe thats part of it
