Do You OC All The Time?

Hi all,

Was just wondering, if you run your overclock all the time?

For me, I have 3 BIOS profiles:

Stock
Overclock
Overclock Extreme

I always run my system on the overclock settings. Ive been thinking lately though that I might be putting unneeded strain on my computer, would it be best to run at stock and only use the overclocked settings when I need to? I.e games, benchmarking?

How many of you always run overclocked PC's?

Edit: Do you also put you V.cards on min stettings when yor not gameing etc?

Thanks

I always run my PC at its maximum overclock, as long as it's stable. My BIOS don't have profiles besides you have to reboot everytime to change clocks so not so bothered.

Except from graphics card though - only switch to OC profile when gaming.

I always run the PC's I overclock overlocked 24/7 but if I go on holiday I back one of them off 100MHz as its on the edge of stability..one in my sig stays overclocked with gfx also overclocked a little bit. Only if it got too hot or started crashing would I run it not overclocked as much. My BIOS' dont have profiles either out of 3 A64 systems anyway and the rest are old so obviously don't.

I always have my CPU OC'd as below :p

For the GFX card i though it didn't matter because it will run stock in 2D mode then the OC kicks in whe you do something that requires 3D mode.
Thats how it looks in rivatuner anyway.

Funny, I was thinking about it the other day. I don't play games every day, and it really doesn't need to be OCd when just browsing/listening to music/whatever...
I'll probably start saving the bios with this in mind....

mate you can get so much more out of your 6600 :(

CPU & Mem are OC 24/7, graphics i've set to run in highly underclocked mode in 2D then ramps up to OC settings in 3D.

Can you give me an example how you did this please?

I ued ati tools to do this once and underclocked everthing to the minimum, but when I set to an overclocked settings for gaming (or even back to stock), I would get artifacts?

Yea sure I can but right now its running hot enough. Maxing out round 60deg, fully stable though.
I plan to do some lapping of both CPU and HS. :)

Back to topic I agree with P4radox, why not have it like that all the time if it's stable? Fine unless you're pushing mega voltages through the CPU

You leave it on whilst away on holiday  big risk with the way pc's can sometimes meltdown, not a risk im willing to take at all. :)

Always run my overclock to the max. No need to run it at the stock speed since it means there's a lot of extra performance going to waste.

But for some of us are stock systems are more then powerful for carrying out are everday tasks, unless we game or something where we need the extra power and then run are overclocked settings.

stay on normal stock speeds, not like it wont run anything is it :p

Fair comment - but why is your sig saying your E6300 @ 3.2GHz? :D

Personally I run mine at the same settings all the time , approx 3.15GHz but with my X1900 mastercard at default

Unfortunately I have a dying mobo and dodgy ram so it isnt 100% stable - occasional POST doesnt complete due to usb controller and ram is at 5300 so have to replace these items soon - hopefully with an 8800

I have 4 profiles on my dfi board,

Underclocked - for when im after peace while using the rig, i can turn all the fans off and have it passive :)

Stock - no need to explain

Overclock Stage 1 - 2.6ghz, stable on air, im using this one currently, as its 100% stable

Overclock stage 2 - 2.75ghz, 100% stable on water, currently my watercooling is sitting on the bathroom floor in pieces as im too lazy to put it all back together :p
