Do You OC All The Time?

I have 4 profiles on my dfi board,

Underclocked - for when im after peace while using the rig, i can turn all the fans off and have it passive :)

Stock - no need to explain

Overclock Stage 1 - 2.6ghz, stable on air, im using this one currently, as its 100% stable

Overclock stage 2 - 2.75ghz, 100% stable on water, currently my watercooling is sitting on the bathroom floor in pieces as im too lazy to put it all back together :p
Lazy as the name suggests!

Interesting point about the quiet underclock idea. Is just the CPU underclocked in that profile?

I permanently run my system, 24/7, as follows:

[email protected]
asus P5b-E plus
crucial 10th anniversary ram

Rock stable.

Ive stability tested it at 3.6ghz - it is stable at this speed. Ive not tried going higher as the vcore (measured in windows) hits over 1.4v and I dont wish to go any higher.

Oh and I watercool. My radiator fans are running at very low speed. The only other fan is on my PSU, which is attached to a rheostat which also runs at low speed.

High CPU speed and low noise.

EDIT: another points to add: I use speedstep so most of the time when the PC is not being taxed it is running at 2.2Ghz. However, as soon as anything approaching 100% cpu usage is reached, the CPU hits 3.33Ghz. Speedstep is a great invention and I dont understand why more people dont use it to save energy.

I have my E6600 @ 3.2GHz, with voltages on Auto, apart from Geil Ram which I have set manually @ 2.1, have not bothered O/C my graphics card, as more performance is not needed from that. As it is a stable O/C I just leave it at these settings. :)

mines always overclocked...

the only time i reduce speed is when i need to leave pc on overnight for a large download, i just change multi/vcore/fans using systool. The next morning when i reboot speeds go back to normal.

Mine's overclocked whenever in use. If it's not stable then I step it back until it is. But I can't see any reason to run it slower. Intel/AMD don't make fast and slow chips. They just make chips (admittedly some cores differ). Some batches fail the speed tests and are "speed binned" down to a slower speed where they do pass. Others are simply re-marked down because there is more demand for cheaper CPU's. They all start life as the same chip (different cores aside as mentioned).

I try and get the highest stable overclock on stock volts, only push my system to the edge if i want to benchmark (almost never anymore lol).

24/7 overclock in sig, good idea from lay-z-boy having an underclocked profile, would give ya peace while you do college/work stuff, switching of all the noise :)

I always run overclocked. I find a nice stable clock speed, and stick with it (although I will also push it that extra distance to run benchies at first - I like pushing hardware to the limit :) )

Currently running my e6600 at 3.5Ghz (2.4Ghz stock), and my 8800GTX at 650/2100 (575/1900 stock).

I wish I could shut my pc up. Its driving me crazy with noise.

Got a nzxt lexa classic case (being replaced by no case ;))
Got 3x120mm fans with it which are silent.
2x80mm fans which are silent (voltage modified)
The pc is soooooooo loud. Its probably due to the fact I still have stock fan for a p4 lga775  and its overclocked to 4.0ghz @ 43oc. No wonder its loud.

Cant wait for a conroe and a Zalman 9700. Will hopefully be quieter.

Hell for the sake of quietness, I might just use massive heatsinks with a 120mm fan blowing on it.

Ah a quiet pc. I dream of such a thing. Not for long as my pc will wake me up.

Can you give me an example how you did this please?

I ued ati tools to do this once and underclocked everthing to the minimum, but when I set to an overclocked settings for gaming (or even back to stock), I would get artifacts?

Just as you've said using ATi Tool, not had a problem with it.

I've got 2D set all as low as possible, then the 3D (low) and 3D (high) set as my max OC's.

Works a treat :)

Whenever I set back to stock though I get artifacts?

There is not a problem with my card as I can run quite a high overclock.

Run my E6300 @ 2.6Ghz - 2.8Ghz 1.25Volts. Havent overclocker the 8800GTS yet cause I havent seen any need to. Its done everything I throw at it.

I've got a laptop (Compaq Armada e500, P3 800, 512MB, DVD player, 40GB HDD) for web browsing and downloads. I have'em all networked but am considering getting a NAS to hold all my crap ^^ :0
