so Ive had this monitor for a good few months now, but from the settings I can remember the max resolution was 2560x1440, nothing more.

Today I was looking at the settings and I noticed that I can increase the resolution to 3620x2036 !

This is nearly like 4k, I have never had this option before, I updated to the latest nvidia display driver today, but i dont think its the update.

When I selected the 3620x2036 it made my icons smaller but it looked kind of fake, like not native, smaller and a bit blurry with no sharpness, I havnt bothered gaming with it but how comes this has appeared, something to do with dsr?

Sounds like DSR, which is basically a 'virtual' resolution. Its under the 3d settings in the nVidia control panel.

huh? i thought dsr was a in-game setting, i get this on the windows control panel, maybe it is dsr updated into windows control panel now, looks no good though....

DSR is a driver setting applied by the nVidia drivers, it creates a 'virtual' resolution that is available to any software including desktop resolution. When a DSR resolution is applied, the GPU renders at the DSR resolution, and outputs to the monitor at the normal resolution. You leave your desktop resolution set to the native resolution, and in-game up the resolution to the DSR resolution.

Part of the thinking behind DSR is that it works outside of the game, i.e. the game doesn't have to support it which is why you'll see it as an available resolution in the windows display properties.
