Do you remember when..

I think the most incredible drop in price has to be memory. I mean only a year/18 months ago it'd set you back over £200 for a good 2Gb kit. Now it's about £30.

I know!!!!!!!!!!

I was one of the mugs that built a system around then, paid £190 for my 2GB G.Skill kit - and it was one of the cheapest! :(

I remember back to my first pc build and I bought a retail 20gb hard drive which was marked to sell at £240 IIRC, got it for less as I worked for the shop at the time, now you can get 1000gb for less than £100! :)

But the price is still very high for highend DDR3 memory....(DDR2 is getting to the end of it's life which is why it most likely so cheap)

Voodoo 1 Obsidian - £60
TNT2 Ultra - ~£120
Elsa Gladiac GF2 - £80
Creative Blaster GF3 Ti200 - £120
Gainward 5950 Ultra Golden Sample - £180 (they were around £250 at the time)
Gainward BLISS 6800 Golden Sample/GLH - £205 (512Mb DDR3 version that runs faster than the ultra)
Gainward BLISS 7950GX2 - £280 (few days before they cost almost £400)
Gainward BLISS 8800GT - £97

All in all I've done fairly well price wise and kept close to or on the bleeding edge for the most part.

LOL...........Seeing my friend PC running Quake 2 and tombraider with a voodoo1 card was what got me into PC's...(would been around 1995 )

LOL! those feelings you just don't get any more - I remember switching from software rendering to the Voodoo 1 to play Quake 2 and Tombraider and just being blown away by how much better and how smoother the graphics were...
