does anyone reuse daily contact lenses? i dont really see any real evidence that you shouldnt other than the standard optician response that they are not designed for cleaning...but i dont see any technical papers supporting this..is this an old wives tale to keep us paying over the odds?

Lol, ive done it once, felt fine once settled in. Infact ive got some in solution atm, that i wore the other day. No point wearing them for a couple of hours then throwing them away.

they are called dailys for marketing purposes. In 2005 acuvue had to pay out compensation to American users who bought monthly when they were exactly the same as the dailys. Now im sure that was a specific case but it shows that its not atechnical term, but a marketing term. They say dailiys can be made thinner because it doesnt matter if they rip and that they are not designed for cleaning. But no optician can show me the papers to back this up. I can see no reason not to reuse a daily for a period of time if you clean it correctly like any other lens.

You can use the product and reduce the chance of side effects or you can ignore the instructions and get an eye infection, you weigh it up. They are designed specifically for one use wear. The benefit of dailies is that they feel fresh and are nicer to wear than monthlys.

apparently most dailies are thinner and do have more risk of ripping when being taken out/cleaned and so on and run a higher risk of wear and tear than thicker lenses but some are supposed to be fine for reuse. Some are supposed to have the same surface treatment and made of exactly the same stuff but are just thinner, some are supposed to be made of different material to the monthlies/2 weekly kinds.

TBH i have no idea, its very tempting to try out my focus dailies for a few days, see how it feels, clean them as you would a set of monthlies as they are expensive and would be great to reduce the cost. I don't get on too well with the thicker lenses, all the extended wear ones made of the stuff I can't remember the name of, make my eyes incredibly uncomftable after 5-6 hours. :(

well where are you getting this information from? There is nooooooo actual paper on this anywhere that i can find. Its all anecdotal to keep you thinking you need to pay for a new lens every day. Where did you get it from that thres an increased risk of eye infection if u reuse a daily? The problems have been with people reusing them but not cleaning their with the right solutions, just like with a monthly or yearly.

there is the evidence that it is a rip off. Acuvue had to pay compensation for this.

I do. Wear them and then stick them in some solution over night. Usually do it for 2/3 days before I can feel them beginning to get uncomfortable then chuck them away.

To a complete outsider (God knows why I even opened the thread) it sounds like you might as well use them (assuming you're cleaning properly too) for as long as you like, until they feel funny or tear or crease or whatever else they might do.

Why not?

Is there some weird subscription thing where you have to get a new pack every month under a set fee, or can you just buy them as-and-when?

Whole point of dailies is that you don't have to clean them and that they feel fresh the next day.

I'm sure you can get away with a few days' use but seriously, for the small saving why bother?

Small saving? I am saving £22 a month by keeping my dailies in for a month, then throwing them away.

Been doing this for a year now and had no problems.

Although I don't know anything on the subject I'd steer clear after even reading the words eye infection :O.

no offence but thats a silly comment. Where did the words eye infection come from? A qualified optician with actual case studies to support the statement? I am yet to find one. The only documented cases i can find were where the user did not clean the lens correctly, which is the same for any lens, nothing to do with the fact it was a daily.
The savings can be huge given that the latest dailys like the acuvue true eye can be near £500 for a year even from wholesalers. Even if you just wore them for 2 days you save £250.

If you give them a good clean before putting them back in I don't see any problem as long as they're still comfortable. Although if this is what you want to do I'd suggest you try RGP contacts. They are more expensive to begin with and more difficult to get used to but I've had the same pair for over 4 years now and they're still fine. Solutions work out at about £10 a month.
