Do you still watch Grand Designs?

Still watch it but would be nice to see a mix of projects that include some that are actually realistic for your average joe (or even a higher earning joe). The Street series was good, maybe some other councils will do similar projects or they could revisit.

This weeks episode was just more money than sense, I was kinda expecting covid to cause him some issues what with all the borrowing but nope just carried on. I did like the sci fi LED strips in the hallway though, that was a nice touch.

Yeah I was thinking towards the end COVID will really screw him over, but nope, somehow managed to get it all finished lol

That last episode house was hideous, some flash Harry with all his daft cars, the kitchen cost more than my house just lol, wasn't even that nice.

Yup, that was one monsterous monstrosity!
Didn't really care about it, hardly any involvement it seemed, just splashing some cash and 'look at me'

We've been binge watching the last few seasons and some of the projects they've got done on £250/300k budget is astounding. Clearly pre-COVID and the material cost increases!

I actually liked the design of the most recent one but the guy was a complete bell. Arrogant doesn't come close to the word plus the cost of the kitchen was £lol considering he could have got close to that for £20k easily

I was hoping they would do a special like they did a couple of years ago about the street.

Yeah this was a great change to the program. Considering there's more of a push these days to get people into self-building, rather than councils selling land to house builder companies, you'd think there would be a good amount of coverage they could do.

Last nights episode was great. A wonderful looking home and they seem like nice people.

Yeah very enjoyable episode and great craftsmanship. I think it's the sites that impose tough restrictions on the design that bring out the more creative solutions. I didn't hear if the extreme slanted roof was for purely aesthetic purposes or done to get through planning, seems like a lot of lost living space if it's the former.

Did look good though and liked how the end point of the roof went below ground level

Don't normally watch this, but I caught yesterday's episode and it seemed like a living hell.

Builders who do a runner after taking a cool quarter mill, "March 2020" coming up on screen, you just think "oh here we go", 700k budget ballooning to 1.7m...anxiety-inducing.

I still watch it. There’s too much “filler” in it (not enough of the actual build) and they still go for the “false jeopardy” aspect (either finances or whether it will be finished).

The guy last night got roasted on Twitter :D

Also just so happens to have someone in the family who was willing to make all the windows and basically wait several years for payment.

I only ever watch the start w/the visualisation and the end once it’s done for the interior design and architecture, no interest in the people, contrived drama or inevitable pregnancy’s that occur in the middle bit. :o

Does anyone remember one of the really early episodes where the couple in Sunderland converted the substation?

Yes, that was great. Back in the days when it was normal people doing the work themselves, with a strict budget.

I don't like it any more. It's always wealthy people who can pull an additional £250k cash when they go over budget.

To be fair though- I would probably doing my house renovation had I not seen Grand Designs. I now sympathise with those who are smashing off plaster/cement with a Hilti drill at 10pm, having done that myself

The house on one of the recent ones I saw, while was absolutely stunning, they went 1 million quid over budget and it seemed like a inconvenience at worst.

It was a great start to the series :D I was chuckling all the way.

I've always wondered how much money the people featured get for being on the show?

Also I find that Kevin guy can be a bit patronising and a bit of a drama queen at times, he's borderline and I appreciate they try and build up the emotion for views, I wish he would just back it off a tad.

One thing the show has done is convince me to never do a self build.
