After watching the Horizon program last night which dealt with allergies and the quite alarming increase to 1 in three of us or 30% or the population with 2000 people a year hospitalised because of an allergic reactions.

I myself am allergic to cows and cats but with cats it is only when they break the skin with thee claws. Not a big deal. Not sure what happens with cows don't get many of the 4 legged kind up here in Edinburgh.

So are you allergic to something that really impacts on your day to day life?

Penicillin allergy, but it doesn't really have any affect as i get prescribed different antibiotics.

Edit: Wait.. you're allergic to cows? :D that's hilarious! :p If you don't know what happens, then how do you know you're allergic?

I went for one of those tests where loads of samples of stuff are put on your arms and then your skin is *****ed and if you react you are allergic.

Should have added a real dangerous one for me I am very allergic to oral morphine which will pretty much close my throat.

I'm allergic to certain types of cough medicine. Its kind of a vicious circle.

I'm allergic to SOMETHING though. But I can't remember.

I am allergic to
  • Pollen
  • Cats and Dogs
  • Dust
  • used to be asthmatic but it settled into an allergy as i grew up, still cough
    from time to time though

Nope, no intolerances either. Which is great as it means I can enjoy my food without worrying about it! :D

This is based on what I have experienced in my life - I've never actually been tested - so technically I could be, but since I've never had an allergic reaction to anything so far (and having travelled extensively and eaten adventurously) I think I'm likely to be free of such ailments.

Have had quite a severe reaction to octopus/squid (which I used to love). Haven't been tested yet, but third time it happened and I was hallucinating, the penny finally dropped. My Dr, who I did not previously realise was retarded, suggested avoiding fish.

I get a few days each spring with a bit of a runny nose.

- hayfever, including a very nasty rash if exposed to certain grasses/hay/straw
- insect bites generally swell up to between golf ball and tennis ball size
- some unknown airborne allergen at a snow show once which resulted in my throat closing up and a rather large coortisone injection in my butt to open it (my throat, not my butt!)

Waiting for the self-diagnosed lactose/gluten/sugar/dairy intolerant mouth breathers to squelch their way in here. That'll be fun.
