do you think an upgrade is needed?

Hi guys, I am wondering if you feel an upgrade is in order.:)

I have a 965 be oc'd to 4ghz with an Arctic Freezer 7 pro, in a NZXT phantom case. I built this system about 3 months ago, and have been very happy with the temps achieved.
However, i forgot how hot it gets in my room, and not suprisingly, i have noticed a large increase in temps.
I used to get 28-30 idle, with a top temp of around 50 after hours of gaming.
Over the last few days, it has been around 38-40 idle, and after playing Crysis 2 for about 45 minutes earlier, it was at over 60 degrees.

I usually have a fan profile set up where it idles at around 40%, but increases quite rapidly. Ealrier, when my idle temps were 40, i changed it so that it was always at 100%, but it hardly changed a thing! this is another reason i was wondering if you thought an upgrade might be in order?

cheers guys.:)

PS, The Freezer 7 is still a good cooler, especially as there is barely any difference, noise-wise between 40% and 100% fan speed. Unfortunately though, i am not finding much difference temperature wise either

In this weather you will see the true performance of your cooler which may not be as good as colder months. At a 4Ghz overclock you are pushing the your cooler to the max. I would recommend upgrading to one of the following:

I am running a very old AMD 955 BE(C2)@ 3.92GHz 1.52V
Cooling: Noctua DH14 with Artic Silver 5
Even with the weather at 25 degrees, I can’t get my CPU higher than 51 degrees at full load.

Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P, 955 BE(C2)@ 3.92GHz 1.52V,Geil Value 4GB DDR3-1600,
ATI 5850 1GB(Crossfire), CM90 II Advanced, 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black, 4 HDDs,
XFX 850W BE, Asus Xonar Essence STX, BlackGold HD DVB-T2, Dual Digital DVB-C.

Arctic Silver 5.
Yeah, i'm not really bothered about my idles, but hitting 60 after around 45 minutes of Crysis 2 is not great. and the weather is only going to get hotter.

I was just playing Crysis 2 for around an hour, and my CPU temp was 62. My cpu fan speed was at 100% all the time.
Would you be worried by this?

I can just afford a new cooler atm, if i need one:)

I thinki i am going to get a new cooler around next week. Still not sure of what would be a worthwhile upgrade though.

At the moment i am going to concentrate on airflow in my NZXT Phantom. I have one intake at the front, 2 intake on the sides and exhaust at back and top.

Firstly, i was wondering of the benefits of having the side fans, as they would disrupt airflow wouldn't thry?
Would it be better to take one of the side fans off and use it as a floor intake?

I think i am going to get a NZXT 200mm fan for the side panel and lose the 2 120mm side fans. What do you think of that? (the side fans seem to me to be too close to the front, surely they disruot the airflow from the front intake?)

Thank you:)

I have just moved some fans around, and i think i have improved the airflow a bit.
I removed onr of the NZXT side fans and put it as front intake, moved the Apache to floor intake but i had to use cable ties to secure it, as there are no holes for a fan. The front fan seems quite weak though, doesn't seem to shift much.

I bought a Xigmatek 200m fan, but of course it doesn't fit. So i'm going to have to drill some holes in it, which won't be too bad, but i'm deciding where to place it.
I don't know whether it will be best on the side panel blowing straight on to cpu, or as another top exhaust(or even intake)?

I just dropped my oc to 3.9, and started Prime. After around 30 seconds my cpu temp according to coretemp was 67 degrees!
Surely that's not good is it?

There must be a problem with coretemp. I started prime, and coretemp suddenly goes from 30 to 60 in 2 seconds.LOL.

I've sorted out the case temps now, but can someone please have a look at this and see if everything is as it should be.

Cheeers:)

Your voltages seem pretty good for your overclock. Might wanna give all your fans a blast with compressed air and clean them up before thinking about a new cpu cooler. Can make a big difference :)

If you're still sticking with air though, the A70 is pretty awesome for shifting lots of air. Can't get much better for £40. If you're thinking about hitting water for the first time, the 620 Kuhler can be had for £50, is completely enclosed with no maintenance, and as easy to install as an air cooler. Keeps the cpu insanely cool :D
