do you think its ok for an 8 year old to have there own mobile phone ?

I might be over reacting here but my sister-inlaw has bought both my kids mobile phones and I'm not too happy about it .

I thought that It was my parental responsibility as a father to determine whether they should have mobile phones or not.

Am I over reacting ?

I just thought there was an element of danger with radiation etc. Also I want my kids to be kids and not minature adults.

She (sister inlaw) even made a Facebook account for my daughter who is only 9 years old.

I guess I'm over reacting though.

I thought you had to be over 16 to have one of those facebook accounts ?

Just a bit concerned as you hear these horror stories about peados etc.

She has two sons. I think its because she's older than my wife and a bit of a control freak weras my wife is a passive person.

I'm well in the doghouse today as I started sounding off about it. I mean she could have at least asked.:rolleyes:

I just think 13 is about the right age.

A mobile phone is not something to give a 8 year old. A few reasons for this, your kids have unrestricted access to anyone they like and anyone can contact them. I never needed a mobile at that ages and never even though of it. The local kids round my way dont have mobiles as there never miles away.I as a kid was always out climbing trees making dens and such forth and never required a phone

The facebook account is damn stupid. Facebook is not a safe place and its very easy to exploit people. Think about this; A pedo sees your kids profile. The account is all restricted but the profile picture and some small details are publically availible. The pedo contacts your kid and they get chatting. They swap mobile numbers and start chatting. Things can quickly spiral......

Yes I have a Facebook account and ime shore a lot of people here do. But were old enough to make decisions and know when somethings a miss. I would definatly close the facebook account but its upto you about the phones.

well Ive certainley put her in her place as she's ***** off home in a Huff.:D

The whole house is in silence the Wife's not said a word since I got in from work.:rolleyes: thinks I'm over reacting though I havent confiscated the phones as that would be like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted. Whats done is done I just voiced my displeasure at her sisters forwardness.

My kids are talking to me though.:)

How do you delete a facebook account ?

Top right of the page click account->account settings at the bottom of the account settings page click deactivate account.

EDIT you might want to change the password as I don't think accounts are entirely deleted, just put in stasis so to speak, and anyone knowing the password could reactivate it.

Both phones are pay as you go and I wont be paying it will be strictly recieve only.:D
