Do you think reinstalling the OS between SPs is worth it?

Hi All,

My laptop came with Vista, but because that was in early 2007 (pre SP1) it was slow/buggy so I went back to XP - and have stuck with XP up until now.

I'm wanting to give Vista a try again, however, quite a few people have advised me to wait until SP2 is out (supposedly next month) and do a clean install with SP2, and that they will be wiping/reinstalling when SP2 comes out.

Is it worth waiting? Does installing a service pack to an already cleanly-installed OS make any difference at all? Do you reinstall for when new service packs come out?

Any opinions would be appreciated :p, thanks.

I just install the service packs as and when.

However, in this particular instance, you may as well wait if it makes no odds to you and then just apply SP2 to a clean install. Saves you having to back up your stuff before you apply SP2.

always be ready to format after a SP..

depending on what software you have, and tweaks carried out etc, installing a service pack can nail your install, there's too much out of microsoft's control and too many variables..

99% of the time you'll be fine, but tweak heavy installs can often be subject to problems following many security update installs

I always just install the service pack :)
I never reinstall the whole OS unless there is a big problem which can't be resolved easily without starting over.

I always hang fire for a week or two when a new SP is released and keep an eye on how severe the issues people are having are. Had no issues so far though, touch wood.

As always, think hard about how ****** you'd be if it all went boobs up when installing anything. Backups people, backups...

some people just reinstall for the sake of it it seems sometimes..

only a serious issue gets a clean build for me, nothing else should need it.
