If you don't like your working hours either speak to your boss or go find another job, it's not hard.

I've not had a job in the past 5 years which was a 9-5, most offices are flexible with hours nowadays. The 9-5 is a really dated concept.

Did I ever say I didn't like my working hours? No I was just highlighting that a lot of people are constrained with their working hours so your point about people being able to get up whenever they want really has no relevance to this as that is not what it is about.

The 9-5 maybe a dated concept but a huge amount of people do still work those hours and are constrained.

Your reason for doing this is based on the assumption that everyone has the same working hours....

My assumptions are:
- Most people work 9-5 (or thereabouts), like me.
- People, like me, like sunlight.

Therefore, logically, if there was a way of giving people more light without forcibly altering their working hours, people would be all for it..?

I can sympathise with vampires and people with abnormal working hours but I 'm afraid I don't fit in either of those catagories.

God no.

In fact, isn't Spain now considered aligning the clocks with GMT to increase productivity?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24294157

There we go.

Spain is considering moving onto the same time as the UK, as their adoption of Central european time has had a "negative effect on productivity, absenteeism, stress, accidents and school drop-out rates"

So no, it would be really quite dumb to go forward an hour

Not they aren't. For example, it's not as pleasant to go for a walk/running when it's dark.

The question is simple: do you like sunlight?

If so, why are you satisfied with the stupid GMT/BST arrangment we have now?
I like sunlight, I enjoy sunlight now. If you don't want to go running in the dark, then don't. Go when it is light.

Sort of agree. The stupid eu olive oil labeling thing recently made me feel the same way. So much time and money is wasted on inconsequential, useless rubbish .
It's ridiculous, like they're all living in a frigging bubble coming up with stupid pointless ideas.

OK, make a case which says the standard working hours should be 8-4 and I will support you.
I don't believe in standard working hours, my current job I work 7:30-3:30 because I chose those hours, if I wake up late or I've got a late meeting or travel, I'll do a 10-6 or claim overtime/ time in lieu based on if I'm working later.

They're more flexible than most round here, but I'd say most managers are pretty flexible on working hours. I've worked in a lot of different companies and certainly never encountered, or very rarely, people who would dictate "9-5 working only" if someone made a reasonable request to change for an 8-4 or whatever.

But a lot of Spain is 'behind' the UK in terms of time (longitude), so it makes more sense for them. Also they are on a different latitude which gives them longer days in summer anyway. Not comparable.

No thanks. I love nice bright mornings - it's motivating and energising. I don't want to go to work (I don't like going to work) when it's dark.

Agreed. it bad enough now having to get up before dawn in the winter but if it was dark even longer in the morning then it would be even harder to get motivated ...

I would rather have light in the evening than the morning. But as others have said, the easiest way to achieve that would be to stop messing about with it, and leave it at the summer time setting all year round.

I think this would cause more issues/accidents in the winter with more people having to travel in the dark bleary-eyed in the morning.

BST all year round would be great.

I don't really want it to be lighter longer in the Summer, but would be great in the Winter to have less daylight wasted in the mornings.
