Using the same system as naming floors surely 1 o'clock should be the first hour that you see each day and then simply go on from there ?

Nah. A graph's axis starts at zero. A race starts at 00:00:00. Lifts start on floor zero unless you're a yank. Why change time?

I've not had a job in the past 5 years which was a 9-5, most offices are flexible with hours nowadays. The 9-5 is a really dated concept.

Yes we've just moved to 8:30 - 17:30 and an hour for lunch.

It gets us an extra hour in the afternoon of daylight instead of at 8.am where no-one can make any use of it?

Redeye - most time zones are on the hour. Being out by a half-hour will be a bit confusing for both us and other countries I say.

We should be on GMT all year round, no change, absolutely no need for it.

But so much of the sunlight is wasted in the morning. Being on the European timezone makes a lot of sense for those doing the typical 9-5.

Don't you think it's nice getting up when it's nice and bright? And going to bed when it's dark? I hate getting up when it's dark and going to bed when it's light.

It's a lot healthier to follow the natural patterns of light and dark - and certainly makes me feel a lot better.

It's not as if sunrise is that early anyway.

I work 730-1545 in Devon (almost as south as you can get in the uk), not in favour of this. Only just starting to leave the house as the sun comes up.

European Central Time sounds good. Don't mind going to work in the dark if it means more light in the evening. Far more likely to go for a walk/cycle after work than before work.

Erm...

Schools finish at 3-3:30, it gets dark (currently) at 4-4:30 in winter. They have an hour to get home before dark.

If however we change the clocks it will be dark when they go to school no matter what - In London, let alone northern England the sun doesn't rise until after 8am with the current setup on the shortest days. Go forward an hour and kids will be walking to school in the dark (along with most commuters) for 3 months of the year!

Not sure if you are agreeing you made a mistake or not?

Basically kids in the south would have to walk to school in the dark (at rush hour) longer than they currently have to walk home in the dark now (not in rush hour).

School kid deaths is a compelling reason to keep the clocks as they are, not change them.
