Do you think the old Alienware case looks outdated?

That's the one I've still got, ATC-201 with the chocolate brown/beige coloured panels.

Just about coped with an i3 2130 build, but was getting toasty by the time I stuck a 670 in there and upgraded the CPU.

Complete with Akasa soundproofing foam inlay and Asus/Abit board schematic stickers from days of Barton 2500XP builds. :D

I can only assume that they would be hideously expensive to make in this day in age, or more likely that they were so solidly built that nobody would ever need to uprade their cases.
I've still got mine too. I refused to sell it the day the stopped making them because they were such a classic, however it's really starting to hit it's limitations now.

Could be wrong but I think the Coolermaster company had a buy out around 2003 didn't they and the team that was responsible for the classic all alu cases when to Lian-Li didn't they?

There was a chap on here who sliced his up and made 120mm fans and I think an AIO cooler fit. Braver than I, the monster. :D

Haven't heard that before, but would make sense as that's about the time there was a massive change from the solid alu to steel chassis with alu fronts and then eventually all steel and plastic. :(

Yeah, it was Chieftec. I've forgotten how awful 80mm fans were and the stink of steel on your hands.

Hehe thats like my case, only mine is the design they used before that one, it has less airflow but i think looks better, i also had one of them cases bolted to the bottom though to stick my phasechange cooler in, ended up been a bit of a beast about 1m high and weighed a tonne.

I used to have the "poor man's" Alienware case - well, not strictly "poor man's" - it was the closest thing I could get for a home build 12 years ago...

Hotlinked image and from a competitor.

Had thermal fans (with a small thermistor on the wire) that always ran at 100% - it also weighed an absolute metric muck tonne...

On the plus side, I got it super-cheap. It retailed at £89.99, but le geniuses at le e'Buyer had typo'd the price at £19.99, only for the blue one. After I'd purchased it, the price went back up suspiciously quickly in-line with the other colours.

Im guessing they were all 80mm fans aswell? Thats the annyoing thing about using these old cases, ya have cut all the holes bigger for ya 120mm rads/fans

Coolermaster s4000 sx-1.

Amazing case. Used to have the ATC-201 until i saw one of these - then it took a year to find one!

I really like the Alienware cases. The Chieftec ones are great too. The only problem is the internals - layout and practicality. The use of steel is also an issue, but less so if you don't move it often.

Most cases today look the same and are boring.

So I bought a used old Alienware case and I thought it looks outdated. The case was originally used by Alienware back in 2002. It's basically 13 year old design.

here is the photo of my Alienware case

Dated? Looks vintage. I like it.

That said I like the older stuff which like Sparcs, SGI, old RISC work stations. I find much of the modern stuff too flashy.
