I have the money, but do you guys think this would keep me in the top specs for a while?

Well the SLI is overkill for a 24" and considering you've already got a GTX i would save the money and buy the next cards released by Nvidia/ATI.

Do you need a Quad Core? is your E6600 not faster enough? again save the money and buy the next released of CPU's from intel.

Seriuosly though, you have a good PC as it is, unless your in need of an upgrade save the money and buy when new stuff gets released then it will last you a lot longer and not get outdated so quick.

Agreed. That's, what, £900 or so for, say, a 20% improvement in FPS, when you can probably run many games maxed out anyway.

I would bank the money and wait a year for:

- games to catch up
- new technology to go mainstream: 45 nm, DDR3, DX10 etc.

Then you'll get a better bang per buck.

Agreed with what everyone else has stated, and would you ever really need a 1200w psu ?

Could power all the computers in my house off that

Upgrade addiction

I think you suffer from upgrade addiction, like I do lol :D

Sometimes when you know you can afford to upgrade, you feel you have to. You certainly don't need to, but you have the money and something inside you just makes you feel like the world WILL end if you dont do something soon.

That said, I have to say if you still feel you have to do something, get the Q6600 and the decent cooling. Leave the rest as is at least until the end of this year (November rush time-frame).

Short answer - YES

Long answer YEEEESSSS

Why on earth would you want to upgrade that system. As long as it's playing all the recent games at decent frame rates on high settings, there's no need surley.

And why 2 x 8800GTX?? Unless you have a super 37" screen it's pretty pointless tbh.

If you have some spare cash to burn, I'll forward you my bank details.

:)

Is there anyone to use your 2nd PC? If so it makes everything seem a lot more sensible than it currently does. If not, are you going to play against yourself with one hand on each?

We don't yet know how demanding the upcoming games titles will be (Crysis etc) and nvidia are not that far off from releasing their next-gen cards. Both of those things suggest that buying a 2nd 8800gtx right now might not be the best way to spend your money (unless of course there is a specific game you currently own which you can't play using the level of eye candy you desire?).

A q6600 + ultra-120 extreme + an additional 2gb of ram wouldn't seem that bad an idea though.

Well I have just ordered all the parts for the upgrade, the addiction got to me
As for my 2nd pc...I will use aswell, but always nice to have a back up pc!!!
Thanks for the info guys...I know it sounds like I have ignored you all, but you know what its like once you`ve made your mind up. ;)

Your choice i suppose, I could afford SLI 8800 Ultra's Dual 30" monitors but i dont I just buy the cheapest possible rig which can handle any games out at 1680x1050 so when new stuff comes out or becomes mainstream such as DDR3 for example I have the money to buy it straight away so I'm never outdated so to speak.
