Do you 'Tip' at restaurants....?

Yes, I tip.

Purely because I used to work in catering and had very little moneys. Therefore I would work my hardest to make sure I deserved a Tip.

Needless to say the tips were unfairly distributed to lazy people.

If the service is rubbish then I don't of course

I only tip if I've received service above the call of duty.

If I don't feel like I've received anything different to the normal service then I don't tip, they have a wage to pay for their basic job.

The idea that you should tip all the time is an absolute joke.

did this thread a few weeks ago

and no, i dont, im not paying extra for the already over priced meals we have in this country.
in america, or a lot of other places i would, as it makes up a big part of someones wage packet, but as over here the wages are fixed, no, i dont think so ;)

A tip is a way of showing your appreciation to a waiter/waitress who (quite often) is on minimum wage.
If he/she has done their job in a polite way and has generally offered me good service then she will be left a tip at the end of the meal.

If things have gone wrong and they have been out of her control, maybe I've had to send a plate back for whatever reason, so long as she deals with the problem in a professional way they will still get a tip.

If however I receive bad service etc then no, I will not tip.

In our cafe all tips gets pooled then shared out so cooks, etc get something and not just front of house staff.

American waiters/waitresses earn below minimum wage because the government counts their tips towards that minimum.

I'll tip unless the service is poor. 10% for decent service and more if it's excellent. I'm lucky that I've had the opportunities in life to earn a lot more than minimum wage. I don't mind chucking a few quid the way of a waitress as a thank you.

If you don't like tipping, you should visit a country like South Korea. Fantastic service everywhere and tipping is actually considered rude!

If I'm just out with the GF and I'm paying the whole bill then I don't tend to add anything but if I'm part of a group and the bill is being split I'll usually round up a bit to make sorting out the money easier, the extra then being a tip.

I generally only tip if the food is good, I know this is a service thing but if I'm not happy with the food I will probably be hungry and in a bad mood :D

So feed me well for good tippage ;)

/edit:- also as penski pointed out in the other thread, if I go out for a meal with mates and the girl flirts = bigger tip :)

Yes, I tip everyone IF the service is good or better. I tip the delivery guy from the pizza/curry place but only if they are early.
I think I get it from my dad, he has always been a big tipper as long as I can remember.

I tipped before I had the food a while back because we were going to sit outside and they wanted us to pay beforehand. Food took AGES to arrive :/

I'm a regular there so it didn't seem stupid at the time.

If the service is good i'll tip at restaurants, only if it's really good. They get a wage like everyone else, and there are jobs in the same pay which are just as demanding.

im actually off to america in 2 weeks to see my mate who now lives there. We will be living the life, eating out a lot etc etc (as it costs sod all to us UK people:)) say i bought a meal for $10, would giving $12-13 dollers overall be suffice??

Yes

The standard usally is 10%-15% for an adequate meal and service then anything from 15%-25% for it being better than average etc

I tip if a waiter\waitress has gone out of their way for me. If they're just doing they're job, even if they're good at it, then I don't. I actively stop friends who attempt to tip after shoddy service too. That really gets on my wick.
