I have never brought my own water bottle on a flight, short or long haul for many reasons

1 - I have to carry it around the world
2 - It needs to be empty before security
3 - I don't know if there is a water fountain at the side of security
4 - There is free water on the plane
5 - Since I started getting lounge access, I don't even need to buy drinks at the airport.

Do you carry round a water bottle when you go travelling?

Nope, never, I have lounge access so easier to just dip in there when airside and grab a free bottle, even if I didn't have that, water is pretty accessible through airside stores.

I travel pretty light for work, small backpack and a small carry on, would just be something bulky that I wouldn't really have much use for.

I have a decent water bottle (fake chilly) and so it's nice to have an insulated bottle wherever i am. I tend to refill at airports, but then i also carry a rucksack wherever i'm at the other end or am at the beach, so again having cold water is nice.

Yes always. Apart from the security thing I just refill on the other side.
Being in Rome a few years ago it was baking hot and they had a water fountain at most corners so would just refill and rehydrate.
Going on long treks would also keep the 1L or 0.5L handy.

I usually travel with a collapsible water bottle, can fill it up after going through security and doesn't take up too much space

My friend had an empty bottle confiscated at security. Worried that will happen to me.

Prices of bottled water vary from €1 in Larnaca (for 700ml) to €2.50 in Reus.

Considering Rome is a rip off €3-4 for coffee (yes I was on a tour so didn't have time to wonder down side streets). Going home, I bought a coffee, bottle of water and a sweet pastry for €5 at Rome airport.

Some foreign airports don't have water fountains.
