Do you use a controller?

I use 360 pads a lot, and I find it utterly retarded when the PC equivalents to console games don't support them (Mass Effect 2 I'm looking at you).
snip.

Totally agree. I love using the 360 pad in games, Borderlands, Fallout 3, Dead Space are great using one.

Yes I know it's not as accurate as a mouse/kb, but who cares.

For me it's about the extra immersion you get, by having different levels of walking/trotting/running with the pad, along with the vibration. Just adds to the games for me.

And racing games like Grid play great with the pad as well.

Yep, couldn't believe Mass Effect 1 and 2 don't support the pad, criminal!

I sometimes use a 360 controller, mainly for third person games like Assassin's Creed (I actually tried playing Assassin's Creed using keyboard and mouse before. Never again.), or games with driving. I still use the mouse and keyboard for FPSs and strategy games though, for the increased accuracy.

I use the Xbox 360 wired joypad for most 3rd person games and all driving games. You don't need to do anything other than plug it in and use it. Many games from the past few years also have the onscreen 'X', 'RT' etc prompts in game when you are using it. the only time I've had to manually set up buttons is for emulators.

Depends on the game, but yeah I'd use a controller where the control system would indeed favour a pad, like fighting games / racing games / 3rd person shooters / platformers. Other games like FPS / RTS are obviously KB/mouse.

I use a Logitech dualshock-wannabe. I []ionly[/i] use it in games where there is no real alternative because, in general, mouse + keys is the way to play.

GTA 4 is a case-in-point. Out of the car, it's mouse and keys all the way, but once in a motor you have no option other than a decent pad or wheel.

Then, of course, there are the Lego games - wonderful stuff, but you won't want to try playing them without a pad.

Any FPS, RTS, RPG - mouse time.

No, only for action/adventure games like tomb raider or devil may cry. Racing games, gta games and fighting games, it still plays nicer with the kb imho. I'm just to used to using my kb.

360 pad for racers/3rd persons and games that have crappy mouse control (fallout, borderlands)
I also use a competition pro joystick for the 8/16bit emulators. :)

Depends on the game:

360 Pad:

Borderlands
Just Cause 2
Burnout Paradise
Trackmania
Flatout
Jad Empire
Aquaria
Braid
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Wings of prey
Last Remnant
Alien Breed: Impact

I play a lot of strategy games and RPGs though and would not consider using a pad for them. The pad's great for run-and-gun/relaxing games. Mouse on the other hand is a serious gaming tool! ;)

Nope just sold my 360 pad for windows.

If it needs a pad, you need a console.

Fps, mmo, rts = pc
racing, sonic/mario type games, fun silly/social game = console.

I always used mouse (MS IE3.0) and keyboard, but friend lent me his PS3 for 3 weeks. I got used to its controller and decided that for racing games, it is much better than keyboard (I do not have space for wheel). So I just bought wireless X360 pad for windows, and it is AWESOME for driving - I love it in Shift, Dirts, GRID, Mafia 2, GTA4 etc etc.

For shooting and aiming I mostly use mouse + keyboard, but controller can be played with too, though not as comfortably.

I am however of the opinion that true PC games like Stalker or Arma 2 should NOT be made for consoles and gamepads, because only keyboard and mouse can offer true complexity.

I use a 360 pad often (I don't own a 360, I bought the pad specifically for the pc).

I use it on the likes of:
Bioshock
Fallout 3
GTA4

I use keyboard and mouse on:
Battlefield 2
Bad Company 2
Oblivion
Any RTS games

The last year or so 'games for windows' games has really given me the choice of whichever I prefer as the controller requires zero setting up.
I feel some games suit the controller better than mouse and keyboard (and it I buy these games for pc instead of PS3 as games are 1080p and are cheaper) but then I feel some games belong with the mouse and keyboard - Playing BF2/BadCompany2 on a joypad is just plain wrong imo.

I personally hate playing with mouse and keyboard these days. Use them all day at work, and just find the controller feels like I am playing a game rather than reminding me of work.
