Do you use 'apologies for the delay' in emails at work?

If the email actually is delayed, sure.

Most of the time that isn't the case though. If correspondence is later than the recipient would like, it's usually because they weren't high on the list of priorities. No point apologising for making that decision; it's insincere. I might use 'thank you for your patience' though.

he isn't talking about e-mails being delayed but work being delayed

he could be replying within a minute and still apologise for the delay if the project in question is overrunning
