I've just bought a new 4TB HGST drive for my PC. I've simply removed an old drive and installed the new one but it doesn't show up in Windows (7). but does in the BIOS.

What have I've missed?

Chance are you will need to Format the disk in Disk Management and assign it a letter.

This is how all new drives behave, as above, you need to fire up Disk Management.

Start, Run (WinKey + R)
diskmgmt.msc

Thanks all! But something odd is happening. Disk Management created a 2Tb partition and left the remaining 1.6Tb as unallocated. It will not let me partition this and I can't access it. Partition Manager (Free) sees the unallocated space as well but can't partition or format it.

Any more ideas on how to get the full capacity?
