Dock / DAB / Wireless Speaker?

Last year I bought the Mrs a JBL dock for her iPhone. Needless to say it lasted less than a couple of months and the bloody thing broke.
The way it was designed the getting in and out of the thing meant the plug part to slot in the iPhone was forvever getting bent.

Now I am replacing that this year but I thought about doing it differently. She wants to get a nexus 4 and not have the iPhone, so dock seems pointless anyway.

The things she's looking for are:

- DAB radio, ideally
- min. 2 USB slots for charging
- Music playback
- Wireless / bluetooth connectivity for the phone to it.

So, would we be best getting a "wireless speaker" or whatever they are? Can someone fill me in on the best options out there? It seems to be a bit of a minefield!

I think you might struggle with the USB slots on this to be honest. You might be better to just get a 2x USB plug with the cables in that for charging.

That way your only looking for a Wireless/Bluetooth DAB Radio which is likely to be much more common. My mother in law recently bought a small Sony type thing which was about £65. It seems decent enough for what it is but the only issue is it doesnt have a built in rechargeable battery which is fine if you're leaving it in one place but then you need to find batteries if you're moving it around.

As for an actual recommendation i can't actually help!

It might exist somewhere but im not really sure where. For example this thing seems to have 95% of what you want (only 1 USB socket but maybe you can get away with a splitter)

The problem is i've never heard of it so it might sound crap. How big an area are you hoping it'll fill with sound?

This i'd have more confidence in but its fairly pricey. In fact how much you wanting to spend?

Revo AXiS XS apart from only having 1 USB port is this what your after? I bought one a year ago, part from clunky software, it's a pretty good system. Works with my flac files with no issue, sound quality is good. Buy direct and I also went through quidco to get £16 back.

Right, I've found this, which kind of does it all. The Onkyo CR-N755 - no actual "dock" but connectivity which negates the need for a dock, which always tends to be a weak point in my eyes.

Connects to NAS, DAB, etc etc. everything the man needs. More than that, I can couple it with my own choice of speakers, too. I might get some more Monitor Audio R45s and mount them up in the room...

Start dock end up bigger. Standard.

It doesnt look like you can stream music wirelessly to it from your phone though. Is that not needed then since you can just connect it by cable?

Ah good point. Might be worth checking whether or not you need the optional bluetooth module or whether you can stream over wifi :)

Yea, I'm doing some searching on that too.

Want to see if I can work out a nice way to wall mount speakers in 2 zones and use a switch so control them. So I can have a couple in the bathroom and in the bedroom.

I think I'm getting carried away now.

Haha thats the way it starts!

If you're wanting to go that way though, have you considered something like the Sonos products that way you can start small but have the infrastructure to expand into proper multi zone audio?

It also wouldnt work with a Nexus 4. I'm not sure that airplay works with Android without a *lot* of effort.

I also seem to be replying to your posts far too quickly!

Probably nothing, we had an absolutely terrible temperanillo last night that we bought due to the impressive label.

Sadly i'm playing football tonight so won't get chance to redeem myself!
