Just wondering does anyone know if there are any formal courses / qualifications that are needed fro being a Document Control Manager?

Have been doing some digging, but my Google-fu is weak today, so thought I would seek the advice of the sage OCUK.

Like this? http://www.aconex.com/document-control-course

Although i don't really know what it is... :(

Yup...but cant see the company paying for me to go to Australia for a course though.........

Document control is a way of stopping random versions and iterations of documents running wild in a big company (very basically). Kind of says 'This is the document that you will use in this situation...no others.'

It does sound rather dull, but at the company I am now working with, we have a system in place, but there is no document control department, so am trying to engineer myself a sideways promotion...kind of.

I dont mind boring jobs like that....can switch off fully at the end of the day and not get random phone calls at silly o'clock in the morning asking you to do something that is almost impossible to do

Do a search on somewhere like Reed for that sort of job - the companies looking will explain what sort of qualifications they expect. Search under "Scientific" if you can't get anywhere otherwise. For a purely internal post a prehensile tongue and the right place to put it will be a lot more useful - start making friends with important people.

You wouldn't need a qualification as such but more experience in the principles and perhaps a software package that manages it (more common to manage via software than a paper based system. Sap does it and its very simple). You could do something iso9001 related. Lead auditor or implementation course

Yeah, we have SharePoint and also some QM software (INTELEX), but there appears to be no oversight or control over it....has been implemented but no one has been placed in charge of actually making sure that is it controlled and followed and also migrating all the legacy items and procedures onto it...

Probably because that sounds incredibly dull :p

Apart from GCSE's and A levels (probably not even those) you dont need any other qualifications to work in doc control.
