I have a 680i AR Revision Motherboard using the P32 Bios so to use an E8500 CPU. This is to replace my old CPU.

I flashed the bios using a floppy and all went well, cleared CMOS and removed the battery etc. Put my new CPU in the slot and put cooler back on etc.

Turned power on and board booted to show FF on the LED display. It would not boot to windows Vista at all, just a black screen.

I then inserted Vista disk to use repair options etc, sometimes it would hold to do a repair most times not.

Put my old chip back in et voila it works.

Do you guys think that it is a faulty CPU, which was bought from OCUK btw.

How do I RMA a faulty chip to OCUK, I have no way of trying this CPU in another motherboard.

My system works perfectly with the other CPU 2.66 Conroe.

Thankyou for your help.

In experience the CPU is never faulty, they are generally quite robust :) May be a compatibilty issue ?

My current E8400 wasn't stable at stock speeds no matter what(even using 1.4v)

As soon as I overclocked it to 4Ghz it was 100% stable.

This is very strange as my first E8400 had no problem at all, Except I pushed too much voltage through it and it degraded to a stable 3.8Ghz max.

I also had problems with my 680i board went i upgraded from my e6600 to an e8500...

Try booting up with using only one stick of memory in the slot farthest away from the cpu...

i'd be supprised if it is the CPU as there the most reliable piece of hardware, i'd rule out other parts, then if that fails to solve the problem then investigate the CPU

Dont all the 6 serise boards have compatability issues with the new 45nm chips?? (why the new 7 serise ones were rushed out abit) chances are you need a new board for the new chip :(
