dodgey school maths?

The accompanying drawing looks more like a satellite than a space shuttle. Change my mind.

"Satellite" means something which is orbiting. If it's distance is continually increasing, it's not orbiting and therefor can't be a satellite.

This graph sums it up nicely

And still 99% of accountants cant do a vlookup

Forums would die if there weren't posters ready to argue over the most trivial of stuff. Being a pedant/having some attention to detail pays off in the real world though/helps prevent stupid mistakes that cost businesses $$$$.
Except it's always you. In every, single, thread.

I think you have a real big chip on your shoulder that you need to prove to the world how smart you are.

But instead of curing cancer, you're here, on an internet chat forum, proving how smart you are to a bunch of plebs who don't particularly care.

Even if the whole of OcUK thought you were the smartest person they'd ever met, it would count for nothing.

Well no it isn't me in every single thread, I'm a prolific poster but hardly in every single thread.

This is a maths problem for 9-10 years olds, if someone wanted to try and prove something then this isn't a great example to use!

The only chip on any shoulder is perhaps coming from you as you're the one brining it up/commenting on it, I've simply tried to help/explain something.

None so blind as those who will not see.

I'm not quite sure what has brought this anger on or why you're seemingly offended at my posts tbh...

But this is your own issue, put me on ignore if you don't like reading what I add to any thread, it isn't my problem.

@dowie

Good common sense or intelligent alternative comment remains good currency - keep sharing :)

From personal experience I didn't risk subjecting my kids to potentially dodgy school maths approaches. Instead I devised a private family scheme I called 'Chicken Maths' - the numbers that are afraid of you - as an immunisation. Results were that both could could count (add, subtract) in the trillions within 30 minutes or so of starting each approach (add, subtract) which gave them confidence that made them love the subject. I stopped helping with arith when they could do large multiplications and cube roots easily as they approached 7yo as it made bathtime a nightmare -'I being too exhausted too keep up. At that point we just paid for extra (a bit advanced) rather expensive tuition.
