Dodgy call "From Natwest"

Had a "we are aware of a recent car accident" call recently. I said I'm so glad they rang as I've been meaning to sort out my recent accident, she sounded pleased. Explained about my hot air balloon accident (it went down instead of up along the motorway), confused at first but I proceeded to add more detail about the BS accident. She then passed me on to her manager so I repeated myself but he hung up once I went into detail with him. Almost lasted 5 minutes with them, keeping a a dead straight face and voice whilst people in my office were in stitches was a little tricky. A 5 minute chuckle :D

i like that one :D

I had some Indian call center phone me about my recent accident, supposedly representing a law firm (tis a bit dodgy for solicitors to be cold calling)... anyway I made up some details and got transferred to a solicitor... kept him on the phone for a long while adding in lots of nonsense until he twigged that I wasn't actually a quadriplegic using a special hands free kit.

My eldest rings up people about mortgages for a living but that's because she works for a Bank and knows they are in financial difficulties already.
If they think it's a scam she advises them to go on the Banks website and to contact the department she's ringing from.
If they don't ring the process is repeated ad infinitum until they do actually make contact and she helps them to not lose their property.

did he introduce himself as chief butalese
were you offered access to millions in US dollars for a 5K administration fee and some tablets to give you a strong penis ?

If the answer is yes toi any of the above it was deffo a scam :D

Everybody is shouting 'scam' but the easiest way is to contact the company in the OPs post and ask if it is genuine (if the company exists).
In fact I might do it later.

Calling back on a 'known' number to see if the bank really called doesn't always work. Even with a genuine call from one department, you could call back the customer services number and they'll still say that the number doesn't belong to them and that they haven't called you.

These banks have so many ancient systems and ways, that not everything is in sync.

It's worth being aware that there is a scam where the scammer tells you to call your bank and hangs up. They actually leave the line open and play a dial tone down the phone. When you then call up, they are still on the line, and someone answers the phone pretending to be your bank and you get passed back to the original scammer. It's often used in the "we have to come and pick up your credit card" scam.

This is how my eldest gets people to call her back if they think it's a scam so it works in her banks case.

Very old one.

I raised it with VF over twitter.. it's been picked up after having to say that it's basically a VF mobile being used to conduct fraud.. it moved from being a social brush off to being taken more seriously..
