got this 6tb wd purple drive from a relative. they used it as a security drive but had issues and have replaced it with some other drives now. this drive had 480 hours use on it.

iv done smart check on the drive and saw it had raw read error and reallocated sectors.
so i use hd sentinel to do a reinitialise disk on it which took almost 18 hours to do its write and read verify thing and here is the result:

there doesnt seem to be any surface scan issues or performance dips on it and after the 18 hour test the error rate didnt rise and there is no increase of reallocated sectors. now im wondering if these issues could be caused by power outage or something else since i know this camera system did have some power cuts in the building a few times in the last year and a half.

either way im not gonna use it for any mission critical stuff. but was wondering if this drive is still ok to use for dumping films etc on it, basically stuff that can be easily replaced by re-downloading?

your thoughts?

I wouldn't recommend using due to the reallocated sector count but if you really need to use it, monitor it and if you see it increasing or the hdd just randomly disappears, bin it.

The high Raw Read Error rate could be from power cuts or/and from a dodgy/faulty sata cable.

I do know that camera machine did suffer from few power cuts while office work was on. Surprisingly the hd sentinel didnt pick up any errors during its scan and just smart errors show.
Will use with caution
