Dodgy HD?

I just installed a: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache and am currently formating.

It shows up correctly in the BIOS, but under Disk Management its only shown as a 596.17 GB capacity drive?

I know a 640 GB drive is never exaclty 640 GB, but 44 GB off seems a bit steep.

Is this normal?

Totally normal. The drive is 640 Gigabytes (640 * 10^9) whereas Windows reports in Gibabytes (2^20 bytes). 640Gb=596Gib
